I think M'Vila and Strootman are different kinds of player.

Well explain yourself man, as most of us haven't a clue what Strootman does. And why would it thus make more sense to bring in a Strootman than a M'Vila?

I think M'Vila and Strootman are different kinds of player.
M'Vila is more of a holding type whereas Strootman looks a more box-to-box type of midfielder, am I right?

I said elsewhere that unless Strootman was equally capable of playing in a DM role I'd be rather confused with this buy as we've already got quite a few CM types around whereas we are in desperate need of a strong DM.

I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Wanyama from Celtic. Big, powerful lad, with good composure and also capable of playing in central defense. Would instantly better the balance in the side.

I am not sold on either M'Vila or Strootman.

Wisdom signs new Reds deal
Andre Wisdom today committed his long-term future to Liverpool Football Club by signing a new contract at Melwood.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on his deal at the Reds' training complex on Wednesday morning.
Moments after signing, Wisdom told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's a great honour to sign a new contract at the club and I'm very happy.
"It was an easy decision to make - as soon as they offered it to me, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands because it's a great club and I just want to continue to play for Liverpool.
"I am happy with the progress I've made so far and hopefully I can progress more in the second half of the season and continue to keep playing.
"There's still so much hard work ahead. There is big competition within the team and everyone wants to play football. I just hope I can keep progressing and continue in the way I have been."
This season has been a breakthrough campaign for Wisdom, with the powerful defender establishing himself in the first-team set-up under Brendan Rodgers.
The No.47 marked his senior debut with a goal against Young Boys in September and has since made a further 13 appearances for Liverpool.
Managing director Ian Ayre said: "It's fantastic news. It's another great example of a player committing to the club and what we're trying to achieve under Brendan.
"He's a great young player, shown a fantastic improvement, broken into the first team and made a huge contribution - and rightly so, we've provided him with a new contract and a long term one.
"Getting talent like him, Raheem and others to commit at this point is absolutely essential to the future.
"The manager, the owners and everyone have said the key is to build something for the long term - and young players are a catalyst to that. None more so than Andre.
"He's come on leaps and bounds in the last year or so and that's because of all the hard work he's put in and the manager giving him a chance, so it's absolutely essential players like that commit themselves to the club."
Wisdom follows the likes of Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Suso, Raheem Sterling, Brad Jones and Jonjo Shelvey in committing his future to the club since the summer.

GET HIM ROSS !

I don't mind mental. Everyone agrees we need a robust, energetic DM with vision. M'Vila ticks all those boxes. A little bit of mental is good in a DM.

Not everyone agrees on that need.

Sure, if that player existed it would be nice to add to the squad, but I don't think M'Vila will ever be as good as Lucas in the role.
It's a pity he got injured when he did. It's set back the timeline for SCM to realise what a player he really is by about a year.

How much of M'Vila have you seen?

Let's put it this way: While having a Mascher like player in the squad would have been nice back then, how many of you thought Didi wasn't mental or energetic enough to own the DM role?

I'll have a classy reader of the game who is intelligent in the tackle (see Didi / Lucas) over this supposed hard-man terrier type every day of the week.

I don't think Lucas is anywhere near Didi in terms of class. Perhaps he'll get there one day but to be honest I very much doubt it.

Otherwise agree though, classy, intelligent reader as well as hard tackler and powerful presence thank you very much.

I don't know if it's really fair to compare Lucas to Didi - Didi scored goals, was a better passer from distance and was more imposing in the middle.

Lucas will never be asked to score goals. His passing game is excellent short/medium length, but he rarely pushes the ball forward like Didi did. I don't remember stupid fouls around the box which Lucas has started doing again - that needs to be ironed out - but yes, he's a smart tackler who reads the game very well, and is a good player. I was at Anfield when he was phenomenal against City (1-1), and I wonder if he'll be able to recapture that form. Or should I say, I hope he can.

How many times did you see Didi play before the age of 25?

Also, don't focus on the Kaiser part. My point is that I don't think we have this pressing need for the kind of DM being spoken about, and I definitely don't see the need for M'Vila.

Tbh, I can't remember but I saw him a few times with Newcastle (I think it was 97? sometimes around there) and I have no clue if I saw him beforehand with Bayern or Germany. It's a long time ago ... That being said, I would be interested to see if Ryan (or other proper Lucas'aholics - I can't be that as I wasn't high on him until Kenny's 1st few months) even puts those two players together.

I don't know ... I'm not that fussed as long as we win most of the games we play! 😉
