How good is he Oncy? Whats his style.
I've seen him play a bunch of times for both Roma and Italy (maybe u21's more) although admittedly only once or twice in the past year. Imagine if with Lucas we got what we expected. Thats kinda how he plays. He's like a mini Gerrard. Hes not very quick (as if we'd be in for a fast player ever) he is a very fine passer and a clever player. He also has a wicked strike on him. Im not sure if he takes set plays well because de rossi takes them usually.
I would be genuinely ecstatic if we got Aquilani. Im not sure how long ive wanted him, but its fucking years. Hes great. I really really want.
Will he be able to hack the midfield battles than would ensue in England? I don't mind Lucas as a squad player but his lack of willingness to impose himself onto games annoys the fuck out of me. Hopefully if signed Aquilini will have the personality to get on the ball and make an impact when he's on the pitch.
He wont fly into challenges mate. He's like Xabi.
Xabi can get stuck when needed Oncey. He can take a tackle too, hence the red cards given to opponents last season.

Yup.

Xabi's defensive ability and 'hardness' is very underrated.

Arda Turan: Liverpool Step Up Chase for £13M Dazzling Winger & Turkish Golden Boy
According to reports in the Turkish press Liverpool are gearing up their chase for the exciting young Turkish winger Arda Turan. The player is expected to leave Galatasaray with the club finishing a highly disappointing 5th in the Turkish league, 10 points behind champions Besiktas.

An added bonus for potential suitors of Arda is the player’s versatility as he can play on either flank or even in a more central role. Liverpool have been strongly linked to the golden boy of Turkish football as Rafa Benitez has been looking to add some much needed flair to his strong outfit. If Liverpool do sign the Turkish international, they’ll sign a player who’ll provide width and trickery in abundance.

The 22-year-old Galatasaray midfielder enjoyed an excellent season individually even though the team ultimately struggled after scoring 7 goals in 29 league appearances (27 starts). In the 2007/08 season he also weighed in with 7 goals in 30 league appearances (29 starts) which led to interest from England, Spain and Italy in the process.

Since breaking into the first team he has scored an impressive 19 goals from 86 (80 starts) league appearances and has become a mainstay of the team that won the 2007/08 Turkish title. His match-winning performances in Turkey’s superb Euro 2008 displays also intensified the growing interest in the exciting winger as well as increased his price tag.

The player is expected to cost around £13m which may not be too much of a gamble if he can realise his amazing potential in England.

Roma open to Aquilani offers(PA) Friday 17 July 2009

Roma are willing to consider offers for Italian playmaker Alberto Aquilani. Aquilani has been a reported target of Liverpool, with the Reds looking for a possible replacement for Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso.

When asked about Aquilani, Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said: "We need to be open and listen to any type of offers that are proposed to us. We are not worried, we know what we need to do. There will probably be two or three transfer market deals done and I am convinced we will be able to work well."

Roma director Bruno Conti revealed neither Liverpool nor any other club had made an offer for Aquilani. "The situation as it is right now is that Aquilani will remain until there is a squad that makes an offer," Conti said to Mediaset. "Once this happens then we will see."

Aquilani, 25, is under contract with the Eternal City outfit until June 2013. A right ankle injury limited Aquilani to only 14 league appearances for I Giallorossi last season.

Looks like we're either spending all the Alonso cash on David Silva, or splitting it between Turan and Aquilani.

I wouldn't be against either option.
If we signed Arda and Aquilani i cant imagine i could ever be happier with a window. 2 players i really like.

I'd rather keep Alonso and not get Aquilani.

But I'd LOVE Turan here, tho 13 million is pretty steep.

Liverpool set for Aquilani talks Tuesday 21 July, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Il Corriere dello Sport understands Liverpool have flown to Italy for talks with Roma about the prospect of signing Alberto Aquilani.

Yesterday Roma fans staged a protest expressing their anger at the club's lack of activity in the transfer market this summer.

As takeover talks come to a standstill and with no new investment in sight, Roma will have to sell if they are to buy ahead of next season.

Reports suggest Liverpool have identified Aquilani as the perfect replacement for Xabi Alonso, who appears ready to leave for Real Madrid.

Il Corriere believes Roma have told Aquilani that they will sell him should a decent offer arrive.

The 25-year-old who was born and bred in Rome struggled with injury last season, but also signed a new contract a couple of months ago.

Yesterday his agent, Franco Zavaglia, denied the existence of an offer from Liverpool.

“For now, they have not contacted me. I don't know anything. For now, there is nothing concrete,†Zavaglia said.

Roma have made a habit of selling one of their jewels every summer for the last three years.

Mancini went to Inter so he would count.

Samuel moved on from Roma at one stage to Madrid.

Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko is in the dark over rumours of Premier League interest in his services.

It is reported that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have a liking for Sissoko, although neither club have commented on the speculation.

The 19-year-old remains committed to Ligue 1 club Toulouse despite the conjecture and is focused on the new season at Stadium Municipal.

He said: "I am flattered by those links, but, to be honest, president (Olivier) Sadran never said anything to me yet about any bid.

"For me, I will play for Toulouse until something is said to me. I am happy here and going abroad is not in my mind yet."

How depressing is that?

I mean depressing in a 'Liverpool linked with Ribery' comparison. Sensible enough I'm sure.

Let Villa have him. He was awful last season.

That is a good signing for Sunderland. 5 million seems fairly good too. Thought Arsenal mght have been interesting to add steel to their midfield.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has declared he’s ready to sell Liverpool target Alberto Aquilani.

Liverpool see Aquilani as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso, should the Spaniard make the move to Real Madrid this summer.

Spalletti said: “We have been quite expert in recent years following the departures of a number of our top players, and we have always managed to reorganise ourselves well. We would love to bring Aquilani back to the levels that he has shown he can reach, but there are a number of clubs interested in his services.

“If he should find a solution that is good for him and less so for the club, then a move is unlikely to go ahead. Either way the challenge remains the same as we look to regroup and compete on the same level as the top sides in Europe.â€

"We would love to bring Aquilani back to the levels that he has shown he can reach" = "he's a permacrock, and we're delighted someone's silly enough to offer a bag full of shekels for him"

So maybe £7m for the pair of them?

Why would we sell the current Spanish right back for 2.7m? Regardless of how long he has remaining on his contract or if he wants to go?
If all we're getting is 2.7m then we should just fuck it off and let him leave for nothing in June.

"but he's only got 1 year left on his contraBOLLOCKS PEOPLE.

That fucking steeple-chaser Kolo Toure has one year left on his contract, and is being sold for 14M, andheresthething - HE'S FUCKING GASH.

Arbeloa's the Spanish right-back, has been number one in that position for Liverpool for over two years, and could easily fit into any side in the world. You pay a premium for that sort of player, not 2.7fuckingwhatever million.

We shouldn't be selling for anything less than 5M. We shouldn't be selling him at all actually.

Apparently the fee's £4.5m-ish, or so Sky Sports think. Presumably he's being sold because he wants to leave; because he wouldn't be first choice next season anyway; and because we need to raise money for another signing.

That's not a bad deal

If we bring in someone who's adaptable, experienced and used to the Prem it shouldn't be much of a problem.
