Lodeiro

Q) I noticed my club Liverpool were linked with a move for a Uruguayan midfield player, Nicolás Lodeiro, who is playing with Nacional. Just wondered if you could tell me any more about him? I saw reports suggesting that Barcelona were also monitoring his progress, would you say that Liverpool/Barcelona were a level he was capable of reaching? I also saw some rather fanciful comparisons with Leo Messi, but is that simply lazy stereotyping? Any information would be appreciated.
Neil Jones

A) He's my favourite thing this year. Little left-footed attacking midfielder - but less of a dribbler than Messi, more of a passer. Makes the game flow so well because he usually knows what he's going to do before he receives the ball. Made a big impression at the start of the year in he South American Under-20 Championships, then went straight into the Nacional side and is their top scorer as they've reached the Libertadores semis for the first time since they last won the thing in 1988. I think he's starting to look a bit tired, which is no wonder.
I have very high hopes of him, but would hope that he doesn't move right away to a club where he won't be getting a regular game.

Is that from Vickery Keni? He sounds promising.

It's all spendable isn't it? If you sell 10 for around 1/2 a mill each then you've got a Luis Garcia. 🙂

Anyway Leto for £3.5M

According to the Barnsley manager, they have made an offer for Hammill, but have been told that we want to look at him in pre-season before anything.

Liverpool have joined Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City in the race to sign Inter Milan defender, Maicon, according to his agent Antonio Caliendo.

"I heard from Maicon today [Monday] and we have to see what happens in the next few days with Real Madrid," Caliendo told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

"Liverpool are also interested in the player, as are Chelsea and Manchester City. It's down to Maicon to make choices. He wants to stay now that [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic is staying."

"Will Inter sell him for the right money? You will have to ask president [Massimo] Moratti this question," concluded the agent.

Maybe they forgot we signed johnson when this was fabricated, maicon is not bad though but he doesn't fit anywhere

Load of dung this article.

Liverpool youngster Ryan Flynn is poised to join SPL side Falkirk, skysports.com understands.

Falkirk are believed to have won the race to sign the highly-rated winger on loan.

Liverpool are allowing Flynn to leave on loan so that he gain valuable first-team experience at Falkirk.

A number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in taking the 20-year-old on loan, but Falkirk have managed to agree a deal with the Reds to lure him to Scotland.

Flynn is highly regarded at Anfield and the club's coaching staff hope the loan spell at Falkirk will help his development for the future.

They really do use a template for these articles, don't they? Nuts.

awful window so far for us.

spent the summer fighting off interest for our two central midfielders. barely a noise made about anyone interested in players we should get rid of. voronin returns and our highest signing is a right back.

just hope we buy that attacking left sided forward ala silva. and fuck knows what will happen when torres is injured/rested.

I'm not sure about this with Ribery coming. Spanish gypsies and French don't tend to mix well. Plus, with Babel and Johnson in the team, we all know that the gypsy thinks he's better than the black man, always resulting in aggro.

As of right this second, if the window closed right now, it'd would actually have been a very good window for us...

Our fiercest rival is weakened, Chelsea are no stonger than they were, and we most certainly are, with the addition of Johnson.

Liverpool's £15m Aquilani swoop Thursday 16 July, 2009
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool have sent emissaries to Rome in order to complete a £15m swoop for Alberto Aquilani, according to several Italian newspapers.
The Reds have shown an interest in the Roma midfielder as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso, who is heading to Real Madrid.
Now it’s claimed the club has taken the firm step of sending two emissaries to Italy for crunch talks. The Gazzetta dello Sport says they are FIFA agent Frank Trimboli and an unnamed assistant to Rafa Benitez.

Initially the offer for Aquilani was said to be £13m, but that has been increased to £15m with a five-year contract for the player worth almost £3m per season.
The Italian international only recently extended his contract with Roma until 2013, putting pen to paper in May, after links with Inter, Juventus and Milan.
He is still recovering from ankle surgery and will undergo another check-up in Amsterdam next week. Roma have made no secret of the fact they need to raise funds in order to strengthen the squad amid a financial crisis.

Coach Luciano Spalletti also declared this week that “we have an abundance of midfielders and probably one player too many in that position.â€
Matteo Brighi was thought to be the one sacrificed to Fiorentina or Napoli, but Aquilani would certainly bring in a lot more money. Aquilani would also balance the books more effectively, as he is a homegrown player and therefore the £15m qualifies as a total profit.

How good is he Oncy? Whats his style.
[/quote]I've seen him play a bunch of times for both Roma and Italy (maybe u21's more) although admittedly only once or twice in the past year. Imagine if with Lucas we got what we expected. Thats kinda how he plays. He's like a mini Gerrard. Hes not very quick (as if we'd be in for a fast player ever) he is a very fine passer and a clever player. He also has a wicked strike on him. Im not sure if he takes set plays well because de rossi takes them usually.
I would be genuinely ecstatic if we got Aquilani. Im not sure how long ive wanted him, but its fucking years. Hes great. I really really want.

surely you must be worried about his injury record though Oncey?
[/quote]He's had 2 bad injuries i think. An ankle and a knee. Not a succession of niggles, and not muscular (which worry me a lot) so not really no.

Will he be able to hack the midfield battles than would ensue in England? I don't mind Lucas as a squad player but his lack of willingness to impose himself onto games annoys the fuck out of me. Hopefully if signed Aquilini will have the personality to get on the ball and make an impact when he's on the pitch.

His agent has said the rumours are a bag of shite. Sorry to piss on your bonfire Andy.

The agent of Alberto Aquilani has brushed aside reports suggesting the Italian playmaker will leave Roma for Liverpool this summer.

Speculation in Italy claimed a delegation from Anfield had arrived in Rome to offer 16million Euros for the player.

The highly-rated 25-year-old is considered a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

But Aquilani's agent Franco Zabaglia said: "Alberto to Liverpool? Let's not say silly things. There's no point in even talking about this subject because there is no truth in this."
