Excellent news. This could be as important a signing as any we make this summer.
Why?
Because it's a bit of good news; which we're a bit short of at the moment 🙁

We will just have to see how it works out. I don't buy in to the idea that Kenny is some kind of miracle worker, but he may just succeed where others have failed. 🙂

Succeed at what?

What is it exactly that he's being brought in to do?

Reading some of the posts, it almost seems as though we're hiring him to hang around Melwood so he can spread some joy and cheer.

Huh?

We've made our first transfer of the summer, Utd have lost 2 very good players and gained a has-been, Kenny will be back at Liverpool, we're about to get better shirt sponsorship than before, Parry is gone, we came 2nd last season which bolds well for next season and you concentrate of the negative rumours???

You do realize that we're potentially losing Xabi and Mascher too right?

There's a rumour it'll be announced today - at least that will distract a bit from the OT nonsense.

From the Times online

Kenny Dalglish is to return to Liverpool in a wide-ranging role based at the club's academy.

He will work closely with the youth system and as a sounding board for Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager.

The club legend - arguably their finest ever player and title-winning manager - will also also take on ambassadorial duties.

From the Independent.co.uk

Kenny Dalglish is returning to Liverpool to take up a senior role in their academy and as a global ambassador for the club.

The Scot made his name as a player at Anfield before going on to become manager with equal success.

Dalglish has maintained an abiding affection for the club and the feeling is mutual.

Not only will he be nurturing Liverpool's talented youngsters, he will also work with the commercial side of the business around the world.

Manager Rafael Benitez was keen to have Dalglish on board and believes his input will help Liverpool in the long-term.

This pleases me.

Hello RH!

And me too.

I'm glad Rafa has been given the control of the footballing aspect that he wanted, but there has been one or two voices (perhaps rightly) that question the wisdom of throwing in our lot so much with one man.

Hopefully the appointment of Kenny will go some way in allaying those fears.

From the official

Kenny Dalglish is to return to Liverpool FC, it was confirmed this afternoon.
Dalglish will assume a senior role at the Liverpool Academy and will also act as a Club ambassador working with the commercial side of the business around the world.

Managing Director Christian Purslow commented: "In our very first meeting Rafa and I agreed that we wanted to try and bring Kenny back to the club to help Rafa really drive forward our Academy which is at the heart of our plans for the future. We are delighted he has agreed to join us and I am sure he will be very successful in his new role back at the club."

Ha, I think people are hoping his ability will somehow rub off on all the young players.

Heh, who cares... start a thread about formations and attacking midfielders vs widemen with trickery and pace.

Here to stay?

Going pretty well RH.
Did you deliberately pick 'The king is back' thread to start posting again? or is it some sort of coincidence?

Nice to have you back Robin.

I think Kenny is great like everyone else, but, what is he actually going to bring to the club next season that we didn't have last season? Apart from a bump on the wages bill of course.

I wish I was, but I just never (almost never, clearly I'm here now) get chance at work, and consequently got out of the habit.

Besides, your avatar scares me.

Thanks for the love, guys.

No Asim, it didn't even cross my mind that it was a coincidence. My RSS reader told me Kenny was coming back to Anfield and I thought I should pop on and say that I was pleased about it.

Competence at the top of the Academy; contacts for his commercial work; knowledge and experience for anything else he may be asked to help with; adding to the general feelgood factor within the club.

So there's not actually going to be that much noticeable difference to us. We aren't actually going to see any fruits from him being there.
