The goodbye thread

It's sad to see him go from the point of view of his quality, but we've still got a brilliant manager and considering he's not the best player to leave the club arguably in his prime, I'm fairly sure we'll be ok. When Rush left he was only 26 and the next season we had one of the greatest attacks in our history. We'll be fine.

Yep I agree. We are not at the level of Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern, etc. We got to use the cash sensibly to build a great squad that gets us CL every season. Then we will be able to attract top names with a chance of building up one of our own.

I remember the idea that his biting would put him in a better position to leave Liverpool drawing a lot of jeers around here. Looks like the naysayers were wrong. Which totally blows for us all.

The price received for him is a big positive for the guys behind the scenes. We just need to spend it well now!

I think it is more that the buy out clause was paid myself.

I'm sorry to see him go too but distraught ? Nah. Genius footballer but the fact of the matter remains he wanted out of Liverpool. Although you can never doubt his application on the bitch and his unbridled talent the fact remains he doe'nt give a fuck in general about the club or it's fans just what's best for Luis Suarez. Which is fine, he's entitled to that as are we all but what it ultimately means is we had no control over his departure in reality and there's no point get all arsed about shit you cannot influence or control. So yeh, massive loss of a genuis talent (but also a liability) but I'm not going to collapse into tears over it. Liverpool will carry on. We've got a boss young manager who plays brilliant footy with or without Suarez and we'll hopefully invest the cash we made, a near £50m or 200%+ profit (good business), in the right players. It doesn't have to be the most expensive biggest name players either but the right players.

There's nothing to say we haven't see the best of Suarez either so let's take true stock in 12 months time. I'll miss the little bitey genius cunt but he's gone now and as far as I'm concerned I hope he trips over his teeth and knocks himself out. You'll not be seeing fuck all of him till at least the end of November I reckon anyway. See ya Luis, you'll realise what you've left soon enough. Or maybe not being a bit of a thick cunt.

Good post, I agree with a lot of what you've said. Just to clarify I'm not crying into my coffee over here, I'm talking purely from my perspective as a fan of our club, and in that regard I am distraught, we had one of the best teams I've seen in my life last year, and it's core, what it was build around, has just been torn out. The other issues don't really bother me, it's the football that I care about, and Luis was central to pretty much everything we did good last season.

You're right, we have lots of fantastic players, and a brilliant manager, and who knows Suarez could have gone downhill, we can't say. What I do know is that the team that has given my some of my favourite football memories is gone, maybe something better will rise from its ashes, who knows, but it's going to be a hell of a task, and personally I think it'll be the making or breaking of Brendan Rodgers as a top top manager. Like I said previous, his ace is now gone, this team will be purely down to him, he has a monumental task ahead of him, coupled with pressure and expectation he would have never felt before. I'm nervous.

Has anyone said it yet in this thread?

He can fuck off. We invested in him and quite clearly took care of his mental well being in spite of all that had happened. I hope our dear psychologist figured out how to turn on the mental switch that makes him go nuts and we make him implode during a CL game.

Nothing to say we won't have a better overall team this year yet is there ? 🙂

Oh the upside to this is perhaps we are close to signing one or two more players already so we don't need to give a fuck about letting the rest of the world know we've got the moolah.

We should call this the welcome thread. Anybody who leaves on choice doesn't deserve a goodbye.

I'd say he gave us pretty much too.

I'm gutted mainly because not only are we losing a fantastic player but he made everyone round him play better and the sheer amount of assists he provided is a testament to that. He has that quality of making the game look so easy and fooling the most dependable centre-backs. But the positives are, I suppose, he's not going to Arsenal or another domestic rival and the fee has pretty much doubled within a year and by the time he was available for us again he would've been near enough 28 years old, how many more phenomenal years could he have? Right time to sell? Possibly. We've been accused of not selling at the right time in the past with Reina, Skrtel, and Agger in recent times, but with Torres we were spot on, and hopefully this will be the same. We've been offloading and loaning out the players on huge salaries for a number of years, we kept our purse strings tied in January and apart from Mignolet and Sakho last Summer, there weren't any transfers of note to improve the first team. The owners must spend big! Especially with the extra Champions League funds this year and our rivals significantly improving their respective squads. We need a Benatia, James Rodriguez, Reus type signing, or a few of them.

I have mixed feelings. I loved Luis for his attitude and his genius. But he's been a ticking bomb and we could easily have seen him suspended indefinitely. From that perspective 75m for a 27-year-old is good business. I do wonder how Barcelona plan to use him - they have Neymar and Messi - will they try and play all 3?

Gutted to see him go, it's hard not to miss someone of his ability. But we seem to have got a good price, so onward and upwards.

Big loss to the league without question. Within the top 3 players in the world at the moment

However, as much as he was a genious, he was also a liability. He is almost guaranteed to do something stupid again at some stage with the next ban being even longer. What is 25 games missed through suspension in the last few years without a red card!
Given he was out for almost a 3rd of this season I don't think you had much choice but to sell.

And the money whether it is £65m or £75m will do a lot to improve the weaknesses in the other areas of the pitch.
Liverpool will end up with a much better squad but a significantly weaker first XI. How that balances out over the course of a season really depends on how you spend the windfall.

But have to say me any every other fan will be that little bit less nervous going to Anfield this season.

Well going to Old Trafford is like a day out these days isn't it ? A veritable jolly.

Speaking logically, and financially this is the right move. His value is going to decrease significantly in the next two years, and this allows us to invest in the squad.

There's also the important fact he was going to be out till November which is absolutely huge lads. Huge.

Finally we did well last year when he was out, I can't see why we won't again, but of course we do need another finisher to cover his goal tally. We may cover the assists elsewhere, but the goals, need some kind of replacing.

Having been through the Torres saga, I'm glad we are selling. We get plenty out of this, and we dictate terms.

Of course the kid in me wants him to hang around and help us win the CL.

I reckon it's more of the release clause. prior to the biting, there were already rumblings. e.g. wife's dad saying something about it being perfect for him to move to Barcelona due to family. If anything the biting could have caused him to miss out on the move.

Who? Oh, him. No, I'm sorry, he's gone to Barcelona.
