Lot of talk in another thread about their kids and how they're happy if they don't like football, or the fact that kids are wearing other teams shirts, etc

@FoxForceFive doesn't mind his lad not liking football
@Woland made the point of how can you bring yourself to support the big band of nonces (my words) that are professional footballers

Is the game going down the swanny for fans? There is very little rush any more. I don't get excited before the Derby, or semi finals, or anything. The passion is going because the soul is going.

Me and my Mrs both support different sides and I've decided, for fairness, he should support a local side to us who are low down the league, or non league. Prescot cables, tranmere, etc are all not too far away and cheap.

Anyone else thought if doing this kind of thing?

Anyone any ideas how passion can be injected in to the game once more?
 
Things were pretty passionate during the run in last season - I'm 55 and was like a kid again looking forward to the next must win game. However I do know what you mean maybe it's just a reflection of the club's gradual decline, and the stupid cost of going to PL football now.
 
I don't think it's going down the swanny, the quality of some of the kids football here is brilliant and the interest in playing is as fierce as ever. We're coming from an era where Liverpool and Everton and then United dominated. So success was always local to us and the rivalry kept us enthralled and passionate. That's drifted in recent decades.

Also with social media, access to teams worldwide via satellite, internet, gaming etc it's alot more watered down in terms of who to support, what players you enjoy watching, etc. When I were a lad, we'd look forward to the live game on terrestrial at the weekend and MOTD, now you can pretty much access football matches daily and multiple games too. With the CL, the coverage and exposure is even more widespread, as opposed to just having your team and seeing the giants of Europe fleetingly throughout the year.

And to be fair, mums a big supporters as well
 
Do you know the way in the music industry you have bands that are massive for a few years when everyone seems to love them? E.g. for a while it was oasis and blur, stereophonics were huge for a while, you had kings of Leon for a bit etc. Well, the football reminds me of that a bit. One team is good for a while and the kids start wearing their kits for a while before they fade. The team, not the kit.
 
Good idea for a thread this. I think at junior level the game is taken far too seriously so there's just no fun in it for the kids. I blame the local FAs, coaches who think just because they have their initials on the jackets they are the new Mourinho and the parents who all think their little Billy is bound for the premier league.

Young Peggy stopped playing when he took up cricket a few years ago and the set up in that game is so different...at all levels they play it for the fun and craic while still wanting to win. He does however do some junior refereeing for pocket money. Last month he was asked by our local FA to stand as 4th official in an under 11s cup final. 4th official for under 11s! Football at this level is fast disappearing up its own arse.

At PL level my passion for our club is what it always has been. I wasn't born in Liverpool but my Irish grandparents arrived there many years ago and that's where our family allegiance springs from. It's been passed down through the generations and I see no sign of it diminishing. It still cuts me up when we lose and I'm elated when we win. I also take great pride in the club for all its failings and current problems.

We should work out which band is each teams spiritual cousin.

We're One Direction, massive fannies who've just had their biggest star walk out on them.
 
I get more nervous and am more interested in watching my lads footy team. He's interested in football outside of playing but I just couldn't afford to take him to many games.
 
The only reason I keep my season ticket on is so I can pass it on to him should he want to go when he gets older. He can think twice if I'm paying for it for him though.
