You may have noticed we had downtime last night.

This was not a technical issue, we quite literally didn't have any money in the meter!

Jono stepped in ,& put some cash in the hosting fund to get us up & running again, then Ross added a bit too.

However we cant personally fund this long term, all of our situations have changed & we don't have the kind of cash it requires to pay for it.

We have two options, adverts, or donations.

Now adverts are something I hate, & I know most of the admin staff hate the idea too. It's unlikely any revenue will come close to paying for the running costs, (most people use Adblock etc or never bother clicking on them) so we'd prefer to open it up for donations. I also swore never to put adverts on this site, I'd like not to go back on that.

That's up to you guys though, this thread is just to judge your views & see if there's interest in donations to site costs to keep us going.

We're ok for the time being, we have the cash Jono & Ross put in to keep us going for now.

This is simply to gauge opinion & allow us to set the wheels in motion if we need to go down either route.

We put in cash (well, I've not done so for a while) in bits & pieces so none of us know off the top of our heads what the costs are, we'll be looking into it to get an exact figure.

If the donation route is agreed upon we'll put one of those donation thermometers on the site & a breakdown of costs beforehand so it's completely transparent.

Looks like about £400-£450 per annum, but that's approximate we'll refine them & get exact figures in a breakdown before we ask anyone to shell out.

We can continue to pay 'on the drip' monthly as we do currently if we raise part of it, but if we raise all of it we will approach the hosts & ask for a discount for paying upfront, with any funds in the pot rolling forwards towards the next hosting or licence renewal date.
