Inspired by ILD in another thread.. When was the first time you saw us play United? Did you know of the rivalry?

How did it turn out?

The first that I can remember is the 1996 FA Cup final. It was my first like big big game where I invited friends over to watch it. I had my scarf selotaped to the bottom of the tv. I was in full kit (nothing changes).

At that point I was getting around to the notion that half of my mates were United fans and that they were all scumbags! I don't remember watching us play them before then though. Shame about the result.. and those fuckin suits.

I honestly cant remember.
We were amazing in the late 70's and early 80's and they were shit so we probably hoofed em.

Same game I saw first. Jimmys amazing volley and their two long ball goals. Winner being jammy as [emoji20]

I cried as well

Me three. I remember it so well. Those white jerseys with the red rim.

I'm glad I'm your muse man. Suddenly my life has meaning.

I remember my brothers watching the 3-3 draw when Ruddock got that header in '94.

The one that sticks out most for me is the game when Fowler put Neville on his arse and lobbed Schmeichel. A load of us were brought to the pub to watch it by our football manager who was @Aidan O' Neill's father. Cantona returned after his ban and score a pen.

First one was the 4-0 win back in 1990, with a Beardsley hat-trick. That was one of the first games I watched actually with the clear understanding of being a Liverpool fan. I don't think I understood the rivalry but I seemed to have an almost instinctive hatred of Utd, even then. Maybe there was something about the atmosphere you could pick up on. I remember particularly disliking Hughes and Ince.

The first one I remember was this one:

Liverpool 2 – 1 Manchester United | 1983 League Cup Final Bob Paisley celebrates with his Liverpool team after Milk Cup victory over Man Utd in 1983 What better way to claim victory over your rivals than in a cup final? Wembley Stadium housed just under 100,000 fans for the Milk Cup final – now known as the Capital One Cup – of 1983. United would take an early lead thanks to Norman Whiteside, before two wonder strikes won the game for Liverpool. First Alan Kennedy strode out of his full back position to collect the ball just inside the United half, before firing a fierce shot past United keeper Gary Bailey. It would take extra time to separate the two sides. With eight minutes left before penalties, up stepped Ronnie Whelan to curl a beautiful winner into the far corner, from just inside the left of the penalty box. Liverpool won the cup for the third successive season, in what would be the last cup final of Bob Paisley’s golden reign. The Reds manager announced he would be retiring at the end of the season, prompting club captain Graeme Souness to insist Paisley climbed the Wembley steps to lift the trophy for Liverpool.

The first one I can remember watching we beat them 4-0 with Beardsley scoring at least two. It was probably very late 80' s early nineties.

I remember watching it in a Manc supporting relatives house

Edit - same one as Mr. Hague by the looks of it

I think the Ruddock goal is the first game I remember too. I remember watching the game with Fowler's lob. If I remember correctly he scored a lasher at Schmeichel's near post in that game too. Think we watched it in Brown's pub before bowling or some shite like that?

I can't remember exactly but I do remember they used to beat us a lot when we were great and they were shit.

And I remember that 3-3 when Strachan equalised even though they were down to ten men. It might have been the most pissed off I've ever been after a draw.

Proper game of football that...

Yeah it was defo Paddy Browns pub. It was on the big screen. It was October so could have coincided with John's bday?? His parents were there too I think.

I was thinking it was his folks that brought us, but maybe Eamo had to do a car run too.

Of course, the next year there was this. God's equalizer is one of those goals that somehow just sticks in the mind. Schmeichel was so beaten he just went down like Rooney to Bardsley. God versus Gary Neville for his second was also great stuff.

There's some baaad haircuts in that video.

1990. Beardsley hat trick and Barnes.

I sure know the rivalry and all from way back, but the first time i saw this game live was in spring 97. Pool played a good game, but Gary fucking Pallister headed home a few goals. The game cost mee 100 quid (good amount for the time?). Anyway, I hated them decades before that game, and I still hate the fucking clown of a joke (Club I mean)

Some very young posters on here.

Same as for Ross.

4-0 with Barnes turning Irwin inside out and Beardsley getting a hat trick.

1990/91 season.

Neil Ruddock's goal in the 3-3 in the 93/94 season was epic.

The 77 Cup Final. Strangely enough my most vivid memory is of our cup final song...'We Can Do It'.

me 4, it would appear that a lot of us are from the same era. I can't remember watching a game or having that much of a love in with Liverpool prior to this one, but man oh man did I cry.

I had to Google this because I have absolutely no memory of it. We lost 0-2 at Anfield on 31st October 1964. Scorers for United were David Herd and Paddy Crerand. Crerand still pops up occasionally in the media as a kind of professional United bigot.

Liverpool team was Lawrence, Lawler, Byrne, Milne, Yeats, Stevenson, Callaghan, Hunt, St. John, Graham, Thompson.

I still love that team more than any other Liverpool team. It was a wonderfully balanced mixture of great players! 🙂
