And Budha, if people want to be riled by him and call him whatever, then so be it. He's no longer demostrating that he's doing things for the good of the club, he's trying to prove points, which is pathetic.
He might be misguided in the extreme, but you've no proof he was trying to prove a point today. He might just as easily have taken off Torres to save him for the Benfica match on thursday (which of itself is wholly unacceptable).

I don't think he's trying to egotistically prove points (against whom?). He's just got his priorities wrong and is too defensive. I want him to leave too, but I'm angry with Rafa's management of the side, not everything else about him.
I don't know mate, I think it's the beginning of the end when you start to get pissed off with personal aspects of your manager, at least when you feel it's started to creep into his management at the detriment of the club, which is exactly how I feel these days.

I think there's been issues surrounding Torres of late, whether it be attitude, links to other teams, form or whatever and I feel like Rafa tried to do to him what he's done to others in the past, which could potentially backfire horribly.

Which says alot mate. I hate this time of a managers tenure, but the problem I feel right now is that we've been here before, and you know when it's time, and it really feels like it is, unfortunately, and I really mean that. I wanted Rafa to succeed.

Well as much as we might have different opinions over Rafa's reasons the outcome is the same; Torres and Gerrard look mightily fucked off with Rafa. It's likely today is the final nail in his coffin re losing the dressing room.

From the set-up today, the apparent tactics, substitutions and player reactions it's clear he has to go. A must-win game sees our team hamstrung yet again by Rafa's idiosyncrasies.

I don't agree with all this RCDNW v RCDNR debates, but it's clear that whatever his merits, he's not got anywhere near the best out of his squad this year.

We need a change of management.

We could have another 4 years of this thanks to some fucking dope handing him a big fuck off whopper contract. Don't be surprised to see him next season unless he resigns. I think it highly unlikely he'll get the sack.

I think he'll walk Laim, his only saving grace now (and it certainly wouldn't be enough for me personally) is to get to the final of the Uefa Cup and get us into 4th. He's given himself a rope anyway by stating we 'will' finish 4th.

I think he's too deluded Mark. I think he believes he can still turn things round next season.

no way on this fucking EARTH is rafa going to walk, he'd stand to lose millions.
I think you're underestimating fan and media pressure. He won't get away with much more of this.

I reckon Real will be in for him in summer - and he'd be mad to turn them down this time.

Real or Juventus might seem like a good destination for him.

Guaranteeing fourth and missing it, must have some concequences.

Why? Cos we lost a final? Don't be so dramatic.

That wasnt just "a final" Mark.

His team selection and substitutions were baffling. Already.
It was just a downfall since then. I
And I dont want to hear about "the title challenge last year".
Rafa lost the title last year. Not the other way round

Err.... I didn't mention last year!

I don't think Fan or media pressure will be enough for the board to cost this club a significant amount of money, especially given the current financial state of the club.

Nor do I think Rafa will walk - he's got more to lose walking, when the going has got tough.

If he does walk, he'll no doubt go on to win enough at another club, leaving us all thinking what if.

The end was Athens 2007.
Although this can, and will be, construed as a bit over-reactionary and undeservedly harsh I believe there is some merit in it. By this final the team was more Rafa's, the players fully immersed in his way of doing things and we were up against what, if I recall correctly, was a Milan weaker than we faced in 2005, and there for the taking according to many people's opinions. And Rafa went for some smart-arse formation that failed.

It feels like we've been on a downward spiral since then, with last season's title challenge being the highlight, with many, many lowlights littering the road along the way. Even the title challenge has been afforded an over-rated reputation in my view since we blew it in the mid-season (as usual) but that fact was somewhat blurred by the fact we remained ahead of Utd by some distance due to their games in hand. Once it all unwound we were left chasing and closed in when it was a little too late.

So yes, Athens 2007 can reasonably be put forward as the moment we went over the top and started on the down slope.

It wasnt a success. We failed to win the league Andy.
He lost us the title last year.
I guess im getting older and its not ruining my weekends anymore.
Rafa is predictably unpredictable but at least Houiller was a nice and genuine man.
Rafa is a machiavellian guy.
He has to go.
