I mentioned in the WBA Post Match Thread something about corners/set pieces & how it seemed our conversion rate was low despite us getting loads of corners.
Instead of waiting for @King Binny to help, I went looking myself.
These are stats from last season.
We were bad. Almost the worst, if it weren't for Swansea. Not just at converting them, but even at creating chances. I highly doubt we're any better, we may well be worse this season.
Now, Chelsea were hitting 7%, & West Brom & West Ham 5%.
They're lower than I expected tbh, but they still make it clear that we're truly fucking awful at them, as if that wasn't obvious already!
This season we've taken more corners than any other side, 117. I cant find statistics to show many we've scored from, I can only remember one, but I have a shite memory.
Assuming my memory is right, if we'd have been as good as West Brom or West Ham were last season at scoring from them we'd have five more goals.
That doesn't sound like too many, but considering we've only scored twenty so far, that means we'd have added a further 25% to that tally, & it's hard to imagine it wouldn't mean more points!
Of course that's only half the problem. That's because we are truly, horrendously, bad at defending the fucking things. Feel free to look for statistics on how bad we are, cos I haven't time right now, but it wouldn't surprise me if we were the worst at preventing goals from corners or set pieces in this league.
That's almost all down to the joke of a keeper we have, remember how Reina used to plough through defenders & punch the ball half the length of the pitch when a cross or corner was whipped in?! Get someone who can do that & your players aren't gonna be shitting themselves every time the opposition get a set piece.
