THE ASHES

England win the toss! Bresnan In - Happy days. TheFasterBlade is right about Root. Time for him to step up. Cook could do with a good innings as well. Really looking forward to this.

By the looks of that pitch, that's a great toss to win.

Expecting England to bat all day and post a sizeable score here.

Was on the exercise bike from half 10, jumps in the shower at quarter past 11, get out & we've lost 3 fucking wickets! Wtf?!

I see that Bell got us out of the shite again.

Another 130+ would be very nice please.

Tickets for the grand stand lower tier came through yesterday...........Happy days!

England made a right balls of that at the end. 280 odd for 4 or 5 or would have been reflective of the day, but some reasonably clever/desperate captaincy from Clarke in giving Smith a turn, combined with some rank decision-making by England's middle order in underestimating Smith has put Australia back in the game.

All depends now on whether Aus can make 300+ in reply.

One person who wouldn't have been displeased for Steve Smith would have been Swann too. He's gonna cause some havoc on that pitch come day 4 or 5.

If England can snaffle another 50 - 60 runs with the remaining wickets at hand it's still competitive - Very difficult I know. Australia's day for sure but that's a lot of runs they still need to get. Given England's seam attack I am going to keep the faith. A lot of cricket left to play though which adds up to another great test.

He is - I've never been a Bell fan but that was a fantastic knock. Saved England's bacon.... Twice! Can't argue with that I suppose.

Bell reminds me of Clarke a little. I'm wondering whether he is going to make hay when he gets to bat. I wouldn't be surprised if he scores big on this wicket.

Aussies first day but not by much tbh.

Considering that they'll be batting last on this pitch I can't help but think that Australia will need to take a healthy lead into the second innings if they are to win this test. Even if England get rolled over in the morning, the Aussies are going to need 370+ and that still looks a big ask.

Have I mentioned that I've got tickets for Lords on Sunday?

Broad and Swann is a great partnership to have at this stage. The closer they get us to 375/400, the greater the pressure the Aussie top order will be feeling which will work very well in our favour.

Come on Swanny!

I wonder if they agreed to go out swinging after 350?

They seem to be in 20/20 mode. Of course this bowling is helping.

Entertaining though!
