But Kuyt looks distinctly average when playing wide in the 4-4-2.

If Tevez were to come he'd be playing to the left of Gerrard in the 4-2-3-1, but also covering the striking and other attacking positions - he's very adaptable.
You could play Tevez where Gerrard is currently playing, then Kuyt stays in the same position.
Why take our best player out of his best position where he excels?

I love it how it's assumed that you could just plonk any 'ol player in Gerrard's position and the system would remain unchanged.

I'm not advocating playing him as a keeper, he would be going into central midfield where he also excels.

If you're keeping Kuyt in his position you'd be putting Gerrard in the Alonso/Masher positions, which is a massive waste of attacking talent.

Torres recently described Gerrard as his perfect foil, and upsetting that balance - especially after the Keane failure - would be lunacy.

The Gerrard/Torres partnership works brilliantly so to break it up just to accommodate Tevez would be a massive and uneccessary gamble.

We arent signing Tevez.
We might if Villa falls through. We have a week before we'll know either way.

If we sign Villa, we have to change our system.
Cant see us having the money for that signing.

villa is worth changing your system for and if masher IS off then gerrard can drop back into midfield. if we lost masher but gained silva and villa I personally think we'll be a better team.

because he is one of the best match winners in world football. manu changed their system to include tevez and barca changed their system to include henry. I love the gerrard/torres axis but the thought of villa being in our forward line is mouthwatering. wont happen so it moot anyway.

You might be right about Villa spider (in terms of changing our system to accommodate him - he's top, top class), but your reasoning is poor.

Barca haven't changed their system to accommodate anyone for the past 15years. It's Cruyff's 4-3-3 and that's not going to change whether they had Djimi Troare at left wing or Henry.

We don't need Tevez. We don't need Villa.

Our system is fine as it is, why overhaul it just to shoe in a few star names? We just need to improve the left wing and get some good back-up for Torres should he get injured.

With Gillett rumoured to have sold Montreal Canadians for 300 mill £, we might be in for some money aswell..

Or RVN, Silve/Sneijder & Johnson.

LW, backup striker who can play up top on his own & score goals plus a great overlapping RB.

I don't have a link to hand, but in the last interview with him that I remember he acknowledged that he was now convinced Rafa had done the right thing in pushing him further forward.

RVN wanted 90k a week when he was targeted by some other clubs before the summer. If he lowered those demands a bit, then yes please..

At 1.5m price to buy the 90k makes sense to me. You dont get class strikers for that money so it's worth it.

If we'd have had RVN to replace Torres last season we'd have won the league. 90k a week sound expensive now?

No Jon, I would have gladly accepted that. ;D
The only question though, is he interested in being a bit part player?

I dont know, but realistically, he either chooses a CL club with a chance to win trophies at the highest level, as a bit-part player, or he goes to a lesser club to play more regularly.

There's also the chance he may not wanna piss off the after-dinner circuit of scum fans that close to that period of his life.
