Want-away Tevez rules out move to Anfield

Carlos Tevez has reportedly ruled out a summer move to Liverpool, according to sources at Sky Sports News.

The Argentina international has spent the last two seasons on loan with Manchester United, but has made his desire to quit the club this summer clear after failing to start games as regularly as he would like.

A trio of Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the bullish forward - with Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea reported to be considering bids of around £25m - but the player has himself ruled out a move to Anfield because of 'emotional ties'.

Apparently, the Argentine international isn't prepared to make a move that would strengthen the side that was the biggest threat to the Old Trafford supremacy last season, despite pleas from international team-mate Javier Mascherano to join him at the club.

Manchester City are now favourites to land his much coveted signature before the start of next season.

Meanwhile, a story in the S** has claimed that Tevez told Manchester United: "Make me your highest-paid player - or I go."

Tevez has been on £95,000-a-week since joining Sir Alex Ferguson's side, but wants to match the personal terms of £110,000-a-week that stars Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov earn if he is going to stay at the club.

United have reportedly matched the £26m needed to seal his permanent move to Old Trafford, but the deal has been scuppered by their refusal to increase his wage packet.

Well, that's that then. Fuck him, seems like a mercenary with those kind of comments.

What comments? He's not even quoted there?

Manchester United have confirmed that Carlos Tevez is to leave Old Trafford.

United chief executive David Gill had been in discussions with Tevez's advisor Kia Joorabchian, with the aim of keeping the popular Argentina star.

But, despite the offer of a lucrative five-year contract that would have made Tevez one of the highest paid players at the club, the South American has decided to leave.

The club issued a statement on Saturday morning which read: "Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club.

"The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5million and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest-paid players.

"Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United.

"The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future.''

The news will be greeted with dismay by many United fans, who have warmed to Tevez's all-action style during a two-year 'loan' spell that has included successive Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.

They had hoped some of the £80million about to be pocketed from Real Madrid for the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo would be used to keep Tevez, who also impressed during a season with West Ham.

However, after declaring earlier this season he was deeply unhappy at a perceived lack of match action - even though he made more appearances than either Wayne Rooney or Dimitar Berbatov, it was always likely the South American would move on.

Tevez is certainly not short of options, with new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti keen to lure the former Boca Juniors star to Stamford Bridge.

Yet Manchester City are the favourites to confirm Tevez's capture, having made Joorabchian an offer said to be well in excess of United's.

As the Blues are on the verge of confirming Roque Santa Cruz's £18million arrival from Blackburn, it would represent a major statement of intent for a club also hoping to tie up the signing of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

Heh,

"Disappointingly, his advisors informed the club that he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United," read a United statement.

The mancs have now confirmed he's off.
Brilliant

I don't really get the City link. I mean, they've now got Bellamy, Robinho, Santa Cruz and are interested in Tevez AND Eto'o?

Sky sources say he will join city or chelsea.

I like how whenever sky want to make something up they say "Sky sources" so it can be retracted at a later date.

OK, united are scum. But why would he want to leave and go to city! Money?
Erm Yeah!

I said somewhere in the Tevez monster thread that I'd be "disappointed" if we signed Tevez which on reflection was an over-reaction, but I'm certainly not disappointed we're out of the running.

He's a class player on his day, and his effectiveness and work-rate are unquestionable, but I think our side lacks a certain amount of class, quick-thinking and inventiveness in the final-third, and never felt Carlos was the man to provide it. Like certain posters on here I like my flanks to have contrasting qualities, I guess he's just too similar to Dirk for me.

In the wake of Ronaldo's departure, it's strange that he's stuck to his guns and chose against staying at Manchester United; especially with his affinity to the Old Trafford fans, and because I reckon he could've regained his status as a key player for them. It's almost as if he's punishing Fergie for showing a lack of respect rather than thinking single-mindedly on his career.

If he ends up at Chelsea or one of the top clubs in Spain then I suspect he'll have few regrets but should he choose Man City, it could well end up a different story.

The "Sky Source" was an interview on Talksport with Kia Joorabchian. Its between Chelsea and Man City.

By the way Joorabchian just said on Sky that Tevez hasnt turned down Liverpools offer yet but that he would find it harder to accept than others.

Excellent news, the Scum now having to find replacements for the slimey greasy twat and Tevez.
And as someone else said, they wont get a penny for Tevez which makes its all the better.

Yeah then he started going on about grass roots clubs with a good history, as if were not one!! then the stupid presenter changed the subject.

I didn't read it that way.  On the contrary, the combination of that "harder to accept" stuff and a mention of "grass roots" might just as well mean that Tevez does want to come to us, but is trying to prepare the ground for doing so first.

Let's just wait and see.

I just heard it and thought something similar. Maybe waiting for everything to die down a bit first...

That's the way I saw it too TBH.

how pathetic does it sound "ruling" out Liverpool for chelsea, City etc. I mean come on, who are they kidding that this is about sporting ambition?

it's about who is paying the most because Tevez is a mercenary cunt. I think when it comes down to it he'll be a rent boy as there won't be much between the offers if the Russian decides he wants him and Chelsea are already in the CL

Anyone got a link? I can find the Kia interviews on the beeb and Sky, but there aren't any talk of Liverpool.

Rivalry between us and Utd - bollocks. He knows his Argie mate is leaving.
Makes sense. If Mascherano does leave we're clearly not as attractive for Tevez anymore.
I hope Mascherano stays and then I won't really care to much about Teves.

Where would we play him anyway?
If Alonso/Masher go we could play Gerrard in central midfield and play Tevez and Torres up front.

But Kuyt looks distinctly average when playing wide in the 4-4-2.

If Tevez were to come he'd be playing to the left of Gerrard in the 4-2-3-1, but also covering the striking and other attacking positions - he's very adaptable.

You could play Tevez where Gerrard is currently playing, then Kuyt stays in the same position.
