The first match away to Spurs feels like it was 5 years ago at this stage.

that game really did set the tone for the season

I expected more of a frenzy from Atletico. They're not attacking us the way Benfica did.

Obviously would be much better if we could score an away goal, but I'd be fairly confident of going through to the final if this match finished 1-0.

You can hear a flush of pride every time my commentator says "Valentthhhhia".

"Valentthhiiaaa........ nailed it."

Gerrard, I think you are better off taking a pop yourself, once in a while, because you are better than anyone you could pass to right now.

Ngog with the worst overhead kick attempt I have ever seen.
Not quite so acrobatic, but Carragher rivaled him for the goal.

Not sure he's logged on at the moment, fark. Tell him at half time.

It really does look like we could play until fucking Doomsday and not score

Get Babel and the Purple Shithouse on, Benitez, you fucking bellend

Ie the side everyone said you should play

We look toothless up front with Ngog. Nothing against he lad, he's just not very good. I'd play Babel and throw Kuyt up top.

Oh my god it's a deep throw in. How exciting.

Holy fuck the amount of energy Kuyt put in just there... at least he fucking bothers.

Look at the body language of our players. They fucking know how shit they are right now.
Yes but the coach ride has helped there to be a togetherness about their shitness. A sort of collective shite.

That's some mad snow in Madrid.

It's ok, it's just really heavy sleet now.

That was so disappointing.

Our approach was all wrong. Too often we were sat far too deep and when we did manage to get the ball forward, the move broke down because there weren't enough bodies forward - and of course a lot of shit play(ers).

A.Madrid are good in attack, bad in defence. Why invite them to attack us?

What we really needed was one of those high intensity performances where we close down space and harry in packs. This team just doesn't really seem to have that attitude in them this season and it's a shame. We're not facing a great team here at all and if we pushed hard, they'd fall.

Still, when all is said and done, we should be level.

I wasn't even paying attention to be fair so couldn't rate any of our players.

I'll go with a "shite" across the board though.

Fuck me what a dire half. We would have been in this shite teams throath with the right team, but our stubborn manager went with the obvs wrong team. As we knew he would.

Get Aquilani and Babel in there.

We can't keep possesion for the love of our life. N'Gog has been shite and Gerrard has hit 1 out of 18 passes to a teammate.

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kinda balls we talking here?

if only our players had a good first touh and the confidence to string some passes together, everytime we shift the ball quickly AM are all over the place but we lack the technical ability to exert sustained pressure. ho-hum.

Rafael Benitez today predicted Alberto Aquilani will have a major role to play as Liverpool chase fourth place over the remaining seven games of the season.

The Italian international has seen his debut season on Merseyside interrupted by injuries and spells of illness, but Benitez insists the glimpses of quality he has provided during his time on the field - including a well drilled first goal against Portsmouth last week - are a pointer towards what Aquilani will provide as he continues his adaptation to the English game.

The 25-year-old impressed as a late substitute at Old Trafford on Sunday after recovering from the stomach bug which ruled him out of the Europa League clash with Lille.

"It was a shame he was sick because he had been good for the performance (against Portsmouth)," said Benitez. "You can see he wants to improve and it is important for us to have another player pushing.

"We need players with quality to help us improve until the end of the season. Alberto has got desire and he is working very hard. When we have him available, he can give us a different approach on the pitch in different games.

"Physically you could see he coped with a lot of running last time and it was much better.

"It is a question of time. It is disappointing that he was ill and missed out against Lille but we are hopeful he will continue to improve and play more games before the end of the season."
