Wow more questions than you think possible. I must say if some of our fringe players don't put in respectable shifts we are screwed. so a lil mini game, respect if anyone gets all right!

Injury predictions...
Do you think Torres will start? No, on the bench
Do you think Gerrard will start? Yes, think this might be the start to his return to form
Do you think Aqua man will start? No, Rafa is gonna be extremely careful with him and Lucas needs a spot
Do you think Kuyt will start? No, on the bench
Do you think Masch will start? No, him becoming captain of Argentina has equaled a bad deal for us

pick who you think Rafa will start?

Reina
GJ Carra Agger Aurelio

Gerrard Lucas

Babel Yossi Riera

N'gog

I know I'm gonna be wrong but I want to see if anyone can get it right

Looks like that could be it, although if Masher isn't plaing Insua will also not play, so Fabio will play.

If Gerrard doesn't play the it'll be Lucas and ???? Spearing?

I forgot about Aurelio, he will start

and I think if both Gerrard and Masch can't play, we may see Aqua prematurely or I guess it would have to be Spearing or Plessis the ineffectual giant

Depends on other possible injuries in tonight's matches and how well our already injured players recover, of course, but here's my guess:

Reina

Magic - Carra - Skrtel - Aurelio

Gerrard - Lucas

Kuyt - Yossi - Babel

Wash

Kuyt is indestructible; Agger will be reintroduced gradually. I'm really not convinced that side will be good enough to beat Sunderland though, so I think we all need to pray for Torres to make a quick and complete recovery.

Has Riera played for Spain this time round btw?

If no Gerrard and Torres as expected:

-------------Reina----------------
Johnson-Carra-Skrtel-Aurelio
----------Lucas--Agger---------
Babel--------Yossi-----Riera--
--------------Kuyt----------------

Barmy? Maybe. Worth a punt if we have Mascher, Gerrard and Torres out? We could do worse.

Barmy? Yes. But what are the other options in CM if all injures come true...Spearing? We would most surely struggle with Lucas and Spearing as they are both very diminutive.

I really don't think that's a good idea Mark, nor is it fair on Agger. If Gerrard and Mascher are both out, we'd have to play Spearing and Lucas. That pairing wouldn't fill me with confidence against Cattermole and Cana, I admit, but at least they're both central midfielders. No square pegs in round holes please...

Yes Bunny I think they would be bullied by Cattermole and Cana and loose that all important midfield battle.

I do not think it will matter as i believe Gerrard will be declared fit anyway, but it does highlight the squads limitations after the 1st XI.

A bit harsh on Spearing maybe, but I was thinking of experience, and Agger has the attributes to do a job there, plus it would be a way of easing him back into the side and it would give us balance. Lucas and Spearing are a bit slight and similar in frame and style, while Agger at least would pick the ball up and look to push on, and if it turned out tragic then he could at worst swap places with Aurelio.

Hopefully Gerrard will be fit anyway.

The front four looks spot on mate, back four too.
Not sure he'll play a central defender in midfield.

Reina
Magic Carra Skrtel Aerulio
Lucas Plessis
Babel Yossi Reria
Kuyt

................................Reina................................

........Carra...........Skrtl.............Agger...............

Johnson.................................................Aurelio

...................Lucas...........Gerrard.....................

Kuyt..................................................Benayoun

................................Babel................................

I have no clue whatsoever. But we did something similar a few years back at Newcastle and it worked a treat.

Carra, Skrtl and Agger are amongst our better injury-free players (fingers crossed they'll come unscathed through tonights games) so to avoid playing Plessis or Spearing from the start in this crucial encounter I'd play the trio in an attacking 5-4-1.

*Moving Aurelio in central and playing Insua at LB if Gerrard's out too.

I'll cry if Plessis starts.
[/quote]
Whilst I do not rate him very highly, I think Rafa would prefer to go with a midfielder in midfield as opposed to a defender.

I can't understand why so many are putting Gerrard in their starting line up, we have vital games against Lyon and United coming up and Rafa won't risk him against Sunderland. I reckon there is about a 10% chance he will start on Saturday.

We will lose or draw with Sunderland and then beat United - it's the Liverpool way.

Masher has to play no matter how tired he is.

---------------- Reina
Johnson --- Carra -- Skrtel --- Aurelio
----------- Masher -- Lucas
Babel ---------- Yossi --------- Riera
------------ Torres or N'Gog

Awful team.

How would playing Agger in CM be a way of 'easing him back'? Oh, like we eased Aurelio back against Fiorentina, you mean?

I think khl's 352 is probably the best idea I've heard yet if Torres, Gerrard and Masher really are all out.

I'm not advocating the idea of Agger in midfield as it's completely unproven (has he actually ever played there for any team at any level?), but I'd prefer Rafa went with a footballer (i.e. Spearing) as opposed to a telegraph pole.

Ha ha, he's not that bad. Limited, yes, but he is not that terrible.
He is also tall and will be better at defending set peices than Spearing.
Jones, Bent, Turner are decent in the air and Andy Reid can take a lovely corner/free-kick.
Set peices will be very important and I think Rafa will opt for height over creativity against them.

Reina
Aurelio
Zorba
Skrtel
Johnson
Lucas
Gerrard
Riera
Babel
Benayoun
Torres.

That would be my team.
I think it will be that but Carragher for the greek.

No Kuyt then?

I've decided we need to sell Aurelio or Insua and get a taller full back for the left. We have become a team of short arses. Gone are the days when Wenger would get beaten by our team and accuse us of fielding basketball players....

Oh ya, we must dump Dossena too while we are at it. What good is he for us if he is never going to play anyway. Rafa knows how to waste 7 million pounds. Dossena, Pennant, Morientes...the list is long.

Remember when we went to Sunderland a few years ago and beat them despite having our best players out injured? I worry Rafa will remember this, and think sticking out a garbage side will do the job.

Sissoko scored a cracker if I remember correctly.

He's out for 4 months with a fecked ACL. Keep up.

------------ Reina
Johnson --- Carra -- Skrtel --- /me
----------- Lucas -- Aurelio
Babel ---------- Yossi --------- Riera
--------------- N'Gog--------------

If Kuyt is fit, then he'll displace N'Gog.
