GERRARD INJURY LATEST FROM MELWOOD
Jimmy Rice 27 October 2009

Rafa Benitez is hopeful of having Steven Gerrard back for Saturday's trip to Fulham.

The skipper won't feature against Arsenal on Wednesday night due to a groin injury sustained on international duty.

But Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Gerrard will not be available for this game but he is improving, so hopefully he can be ready for Saturday."

Martin Kelly (ankle) and Albert Riera (hamstring) are also out and will not be available for one or two weeks.

There is better news for Benitez in that both Andrea Dossena and Sotirios Kyrgiakos could feature in the Carling Cup fourth round clash after recovering from knocks.

Benitez added: "Dossena has been training and will be in the squad. It was one or two small things with him.

"Kyrgiakos has been training. We had bad news when everyone was talking about him being out for six months after the internationals. It wasn't that bad because now he's training and he's available too."

Meanwhile, both Glen Johnson and Fernando Torres came through Sunday's victory over Manchester United without troubling previous injuries.

Benitez said: "It was difficult for both especially because it was a tough game, but they were training and we were taking care of them.

"Now they are training and I think they'll be available for the next games."

How useless are these doctors?
The greek was supposed to be out for 6 months, and two weeks later he is playing.

No this cannot be the Greek is injured for many months. I think we will need to put out a stronger team than that too.

I think Lucas will be rested which leaves a midfield of spearing and the very poor pleiss so that's quite bad he has always looked totally pedestrian while spearing looks like Benjamin Button around the time he starts working on the boats.

RAFA REVEALS AQUILANI DEBUT PLAN
Jimmy Rice 27 October 2009

Alberto Aquilani could make his Liverpool debut against Arsenal on Wednesday after being named in the squad for our Carling Cup fourth round clash.

The 25-year-old will not start at the Emirates but Benitez may utilise him as a substitute at some point.

The boss told Liverpoolfc.tv: "He will be with us. He is improving his fitness, so he's in the squad.

"He cannot start at this moment but he will be there and maybe we can give him some minutes. If it's possible we will try to use him."

Benitez believes the Italy international, who hasn't featured since signing from Roma in the summer due to an ankle injury, will add a new dimension to his midfield.

"We can see in every training session that he has quality, game intelligence and good movements," said the Spaniard. "He is a different kind of player for us.

"We talk about using Gerrard deeper sometimes, but maybe in Aquilani we have a player who can play there and pass the ball really well in the final third."

Here is the team for tomrrow.

Cavialeri
Degen
The Greek
Skrtel
Dossena

Eccleston
Spearing
Plesis
Babel

Voronin
Ngog
If that were true I wouldn't mind - gives all the decent players a rest and lets Ngog keep playing. Would be very suprised to see Eccles cake playing (a) on the right and (b) ahead of El Zhar

That is a really shitty team. There are four strikers in there. A very slow central midfield and two terrible fullbacks.

Yes. His talent and his brain.

Dossena and Kyrgiakos were supposed to be injured and I can't see any of those players captaining Liverpool even in a Carling cup game. Of course I might be wrong because I have no sources whatsoever, but that team really doesn't make any sense.

They get him better five and a half months ahead of schedule and you call the good doctors useless?

Plus is that ticket available then Oncy? 🙂
*pushes Asim out of the way*

Yeah, me.

You said if Plesis and Spearing play you'll give it away!

I'm excited to see Eccleston, very excited. He has the most chance to impact our team at a young age just due to him being dynamic. I could see him making the first team before Pacheco.

That central midfield is awful.

I don't want to see Plessis anywhere near our midfield. I'd rather play Palsson to be honest. At least he's got a future, and looks like a good player.

Lucas and Spearing would be a bit better, so I think that could be the central pairing.

Actually, in the reserve games I've seen this season. Ecclestone is probably the player that has had the highest work rate.
He's been good, very good. Looks like he has gotten over his attitude problems.
