Jan Age Fjortoft on ESPN seemed surprisingly cautious about Szoboszlai being an immediate success at Liverpool - implying he still has to “make a big step up” to Liverpool’s level, although he did say he has the talent to get to the very top. Perhaps our fans are a bit too optimistic to assume he’ll be an instant upgrade over our current players.

Dont backtrack. Based on yours, dmish's, and youtube and twitter football stats nerds excitement on this transfer, I am expecting Balon D'or within two years. Hattrick with a couple of assists in the opening premier league fixture should be the bare minimum.

He looks like he's playing against schoolboys in all his YouTube vids. That German league is fucking wank. I'm not saying he isn't capable but it's like getting a decent player from Sheffield United after they did well in the championship.

To be fair, same would have applied to Bellingham. In any case, we need Thuram if we really want to transform this midfield.

There's so many factors that have to play out before a signing is deemed successful or can replicate what he done from 1 league to another, some are the responsibility of the club, some of the player, team mates, staff, environment etc all play a big part.

The league they're signed from really doesn't play a factor so long as the recruitment has seen the talent to work with & bring out the best.

KDB was signed from Germany, so was Haaland & Gundogan......both were doing the same things in Germany as they are in England if not better in England.....

That's not to say Dom is going to find it just as easy to do the things he's done in Germany in England because it is a more physical league as we know & you don't get the freedom to do things freely unless you're a KDB or Salah but he's got everything to make it work....we just need to give him the platform to guide him on his way.

This is great. Still think we need a water carrier in midfield but it looks like a gap we’ve identified. I like that he shoots (and scores) from range as we don’t do this enough and it might be just what we need in tight games.

Centre back next then I’m happy with this summer

I value Fjortofts opinion as much as Susan Boyles when it comes to football.

The guy's an important part of a Hungary side which humbled England not too long ago, he wants the move and he backs himself 100%. Every signing carries some risk but I'm optimistic about this one.

Haha, for real. I’m expecting De Bruyne meets Ronaldo.

I don’t want to hear about him having to sit on the bench and learn from Henderson for 3 months.

He’s performed really well in Germany and also at an international level at the World Cup. He’s captain of his national side at 22. Plenty of reason to be confident that he’s going to do well.

I'm generally staying off the hype train in this. Mostly because I've only seen him play against us once in the CL and once in a preseason, but I also think there is something in Wolands point above. Many attacking imports from the Bundesliga have been underwhelming and have not met the hype. Sancho, Havertz, Werner, Pulisic, Haller, Marin, Podolski, Bailey, etc, etc. Every time I see highlights from the league I'm amazed at the amount of space given to attackers and the game has a basketball feel to it. If he is going to be a success here then a year of 'transition' is the very least I'll be expecting.

He does appear to have the skills and qualities that will translate, so fingers crossed he can deliver and join the likes of Son, Haaland and KDB in making the PL their playground.

In the mean time, being better than Henderson and Elliott shouldn't be too much of an ask.

It’ll be more likely 6 months, but don’t worry we’ll have decided he’s shite by the end of July.

I am not saying he won't be ace. His close control and passing look great. I just think that space he gets in all those clips won't exist, so he's gonna get much less time and much more frustrated here, and he'll have to work his arse off.

Anyways, this guy can go sit in the corner with MacAlli'm over it... who's next?

Some sexy "the next Neymar" 18 year old from Brazil? Let's get a 100 pages going for that guy and stop wasting our efforts here.

I’m hoping Schmadman and Klopp have this “Space adjustment to the premier league” in mind when they signed. But he seems to also have the right mentality to adjust to a rise up the ladder too. Keita clearly didn’t.
