So, does he drop Gerrard after the other night? We've got Basel in midweek and Man Utd the following weekend. If he "cant play 3 games in 7 days" as Brodge attests, surely he misses Sunderland this weekend then?

It'd be ballsy to rest him.

I think it's essential he rests him -

Start with the same team that started against Stoke City ...

If we're down a goal, or need some creativity to get a win, bring him on after half time or when needed.

He needs to be fresh for Basel - that game will be very important for our confidence.

I think he misses it, it's an easy game to make that decision in, despite how indifferent/shite we have been.

-----------------Mignolet--------------
Manquillo--Skrtel-Toure--Enrique
-----------Lucas-----Allen------------
---------------Coutinho---------------
--Lallana---- Lambert-----Sterling

If we manage to get a two goal cushion, look to withdraw Toure, Lucas and one of Sterling/Countinho/Lallana.

Actually, is there a case for giving Lambert a breather?

Has Brendan ever started a game without both Gerrard and Henderson?

rest Lucas, I would start Toure and Sakho, in case Sakho is fit...we can try this

----------------Mignolet--------------
Manquillo--Toure--Sakho--Enrique
-----------Henderson-----Allen------------
---------------Can/Coutinho---------------
Lallana---- Borini-----Coutinho/Markovic

If not Can, then go for Markovic...use Borini against his former loan club !!!

Lucas is last player we should rest. He has barely played this season.

Surprised so many have Sterling starting again, he was excellent in spells the other night but with Basel and United to come, I think he might be rested for this.

You're going to have someones eye out with that Lucas boner

It's a real kick in the balls to squad players dropping them after a good game, I'd stick with Lucas too

"I am quite fresh because I haven't played, but it is always hard when you don't play many games because you don't have the rhythm and fitness you expect. - Lucas Leiva (Two weeks ago)

Why throw a monkey wrench into the machinery.
Play the "anti-Brazilian".

I hope he rests Gerrard. As already said I think that means Hendo will play.

It would possibly be reckless cause I think this game is vital for Basle. However, I'd rest Lucas and play Can there instead. Allen should also play.

Lambert has got to be starting to struggle but I'd play him at Anfield & hope he scores in front of the Kop. Sterling & Coutinho supporting him. Lallana deserves to start but I'm thinking he's the one Brendan wants for Basle.

Really hope we can get a cushion and bring Markovic on.

An obvious point that everyone is missing is that Sunderland is Hendo's team, he's definitely playing.

Anyone care if Balotelli's fit or not?

Should be up against Coates which will be fun... And maybe even Drossena (is he still there this season?!)

I think Gerrard should be rested ahead of Basel.

This is the team I think we'll see (although Coutinho for Lallana possible):

----------------Mignolet-------------------
Johnson----Skrtel----Toure----Enrique
------------------Lucas-------------------
---------Henderson----Allen-------------
-----------------Lallana------------------
------------------------------Sterling----
-----------------Lambert------------------

I doubt if Coates will be allowed to play

Didn't Dossena get his dream move to Doncaster or somewhere?

Defo rest Sterling and Gerrard

Mignolet
Manquillo Skrtel Toure Moreno
Henderson Allen
Markovic Can Coutinho
Lambert

Is it a bit risky resting Gerrard AND Sterling? Both are match winners on their day. Both need a rest for Tuesday but I'm on the fence here. The ideal scenario is play one or both, try have the game won on the hour mark and take them off. We don't look capable of having a game won on the hour mark though.
