Schamdtke preparing the bid

He is an excellent DM but if its just Tchouameni or Thuram and one other MF (eg Viega), I choose the latter. We have Fabs and Steph who can both play the number 6 role.
@moron who would you get in this window and see leave? For me its Thuram, Viega, and the SP Lisbon CB Inachio, people saying he is a beast and has a buy-out clause of £40m
Ali Mac £35m
Thuram £40m
Viega £35m
Inacio £35m

Total outlay £145m sell Thiago, Matip, Morton, and Nat to fund those moves

Honestly - these are the players I want (we already have Ali Mac):

  • Thuram
  • Kone
  • That fast defender if he is going to be cheap, but if at all possible Inacio (but Inacio only if he has pace and a brain, and is like 6ft3 or taller) - note this is based on what others have said. But the defender we need and must get MUST be someone we can put into the first team - not somebody that vanishes and becomes a myth or someone we loan out. He has got to be part of the first team.

In terms of selling - I don't want to see Thiago leave, because I think this season he would have remained fit if he did not have to play thee all-action hero for the games he played in due to the melt-down of Fab, Henderson, and TAA in those early games. We need his experience.

I don't want to lose Matip as I think we need 5 defenders that can start always - and in terms of selling off players:

  • Nat - he deserves more.
  • Morton - don't think he will be good enough for us.
  • I would also sell Elliot if I could - I don't see him as an RM, only a very low down order deputy to Salah if he is to have any role in our team.
Finally - like to make clear - I don't want any of those other big name players we have been linked with that play in midfield, and not even that defender that is 100M - its overly pricey not worth the ROI. Always remember - that if we were to get the most skillful midfield talent in the world for £500M (not realistic, but just imagine it) - Klopp would still try and turn him into Gini. So we are better off investing in Thuram, and Kone - two young hard/fast ballers that Klopp can shape into whatever he wants.

Thuram had a good spell early 2nd half, otherwise not much to report…he’s a willing runner with the ball, you can see self-confidence in his play, Italians didn’t press so vigorously but the calmness in possession is there.

Kone was a little livelier, had more touches…played a few smart passes and recall a decent strike from distance which keeper put out for a corner.

Yeah - but Curtis can piss on them both !!!

Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liverpool will NOT be signing Keppy Thuram, it is reported Nice have grown impatient with Liverpool's approach.
Liverpool will NOT be signing Manu Kone, it is reported Gladbach would no budge on their 40m asking price and Liverpool did not want pay the extra 5m it wouldv'e taken to secure the deal.
Liverpool will NOT be looking to actively release Veiga's £34m clause as they Bajcetic and Morton as capable enough.
Liverpool will NOT be signing Jurrien Timber, it is reported that Liverpool do not see him as priority at this moment.

Here we goooooooo!!!!

Can you check on Bluebell please - he may have spontaneously combusted.

Not sure why people are working themselves into a coronary about this or that signing. Klopp and his team have admitted making a mistake last season by thinking that those midfielders would last the campaign; they didn’t. Klopp had also said don’t expect five or six new players. They will get it right.

I reckon it will be another midfielder (I don’t think it will be Thuram or Koné, by the way), a centre back and, if Salah gets enticed by the lure of Saudi millions, another forward.

New LFC transfer links are surfacing about as often as an Oceangate submarine mission to the Titanic.

We're not signing anyone else are we?
Let's look at it from Klopp's perspective, I can't be arsed listing all the players by name but as I see it we have:
2 keepers + Adrian
1 RB ( Scottish kid is out on loan)
2 LB
4 CB + Nat and Rhys
2 DM
4 CM + Elliott ( not sure what his position is)
5 Forwards/Wingers + Doak

Looks like a full squad I guess. Unless Klopp wants another RB.

To me it looks like a "sell before buying" situation. Our midfield still doesn't look that great, even with Mac. We need another quality player there. Hendo, Thiago and Fabs are on the decline and I'm not sure about Jones and Elliott.

So if this was football manager and I was on a tight budget, I'd convert Trent into a midfielder and I'd buy another right back.
I'd also try to find some way to finance another right winger who could replace Salah in the future.

Do you not think that Klopp will continue with the system from last season where Trent moves into midfield (and we are a team with high possession stats) and then drops back into RB when we lose possession.

If the forward press is worked on then that helps facilitate Trent.

Look at that Gerrard & Salah video that’s in one of the other threads - there’s a very key moment when Sakai talks about the importance of the runs that Hendo & Harvey make to him (you can probably add Gakpo’s movement as the catalyst to Nunez higher positioning to that as well).

I’m going to keep banging this drum - if we want to be getting the best out of Salah, someone needs to be making regular runs to try and take away a defender and if it’s Trent, then the whole point of moulding a system to also get him time and space to play make from deep just falls.

That’s why we need another midfielder for the right midfield space to compete/rotate with Henderson & Harvey - someone who can be robust, chase & press, but also technically good with string ball retention and sharp passing and a willing runner with good creativity.

I think Thuram fits that bill - we can afford to bring someone in and have them slowly transition in - Hendo isn’t dead and Harvey should be on an upward development curve.

The biggest concern after that is whether Konate can stay fit, whether Gomez can find the consistency that has eluded him since our title winning team (cause he’s actually ideal in theory).

Then we get on to the DM position and in a years or so we need to be looking at Salah & Virgil replacements.

Not sure what another RB brings, other than needing to re-tweak the system - but an injury to Trent would cause problems.

I see what you're saying but maybe we're being too obvious with Trent playing the way he is.
I saw Trent play for England and he didn't mind making the runs you're talking about.
Thuram would be a great addition to the team, but like I said, we already have 7 players in midfield. Someone has to go.
As for right back, I share your concern. I don't want to see Gomez play in that position and if Trent gets injured that's pretty much our only option.

A full squad of pieces that don't quite fit together and / or aren't good enough... it's a problem that's been in the making for 2-3 seasons now with everyone saying we've got enough to make do.

Maybe Klopp manages to pull it out of the bag and make it all work. Maybe Jones finally kicks on and establishes himself as a genuine first teamer, maybe we get the "real" Fabinho back, maybe Harvey Elliot becomes more than just potential, maybe Bajcetic proves he's for real, maybe Nunez finds his place in the team and proves he wasn't a waste of money, maybe Diaz puts his injury recovery behind him and kicks on another level, maybe VVD goes away to reflect this summer and comes back with renewed focus, maybe we get lucky with injuries this year and Konate stays fit... maybe maybe maybe. A lot of maybes to be working with.

What have I missed , why are we all assuming there will be no more signings ?

We are owned by FSG, the owners that thought it was ok not to replace Gini, the owners that thought was Ok not to replace Lovren and run with 3 first team defenders that season, the owners that are happy to tell fans we tried but got out bid, and our top red fans are happy to accept that as an excuse for not investing in the squad or believing that by not signimg this season means we get a superstar next season..if they pull some shit like this season and our fans turn up to matches then all i can say is that they are the most gullable emotional twats on this earth. Before anyone gives the support die hard bollox, they should remind themselves of the legacy of this club and what those great managers feom yesteryear used to say about coming 2nd in the league. DONT ACCEPT LFC BEING A CLUB THAT CHALLENGES FOR 4TH OR A CLUB THAT IS DEFINED BY MAKING UP NUMBERS IN THE PL.

I'm not convinced that 7 mids is enough. Jones has had his fair share of injuries (albeit weird ones), Hendo and Fab are only getting older, Thiago cannot be relied upon, Elliott isn't a RCM, no matter how much klopp wishes he was. Stefan is still a kid so should be used sparingly for now so we don't burn him out and ruin him. Alexis is a shining beacon of hope and thats it. If klopp just looks at the names on the squad list and doesn't take other things in to account, then thats a huge worry.

I'm hoping for Thuram, as i think he'll rotate with fab and eventually replace, maybe rotate with hendo but i'm less convinced with that.

I agree with you but do you remember last summer when Klopp was adamant that we had enough midfielders, panicked then signed Melo on loan.

Yup. I do think klopp just looks at the numbers, sees the best in everyone and hopes for the best and thats it. It was only when we got a few injuries before the window SLAMMED shut that we decided to get melo.

He's a stubborn fucker
