On the plus side for Arsenal they only need to spend 5p to get an improvement on Koscielny

Koscielny's the best defender they've got by a distance. He's got real potential.

Vermaelen on the other hand is absolutely dreadful, and their full-backs are junk.

Thiago to #MUFC now being reported as close, with €18 million the fee. Would be an audacious signing, at what appears to be great value.

You gotta be kidding me!

Dortmund turns their attention to Pjanic from AS Roma instead of E r i k s e n according to Bild.

Fishy.

*There's is actually a big piece on Dortmund's hunt for a new Götze, and they mention De Bruyne, Isco and Bernard and this Pjanic lad. E r i k s e n's name not even mentioned.

A week back the deal was all but signed, according to the same news source.

FISHY.

Bild also saying that Manure are sniffing around Isco now ...

How good is Pjanic? I saw him a few times for Lyon, and he seemed excellent - and I just haven't watched much Roma games lately, and when I do, you can't help but look more at what Lamela is doing ...

He looked good at Lyon but as with you I haven't seen him for Roma either.

Has any of the resident Liverpudlians on here seen a young Dane with hair like an 80-year-old, not unlike Zidane, house hunting in the area?

Sky: According to "local newspapers" Dortmund and PSG have entered the race to sign Isco.

Other news, Reading have signed Alex Pearce to a 2 year contract (a former target of ours) & Royston Drenthe (wow)

Arsenal are yet to agree a fee for Higuain even if the personal terms story is true.

Will be a good signing for them if it happens.

There's very mixed signals here - his agent says nothing is happening until a new manager is in, and the Juve president says he's 'with another club' (ARsenal?). Oh well, whoever gets him gets an eager, hungry 25 year old who will score goals.

Would be very interesting to see Higuain in the Prem, as well as Oncy's reaction on him not moving to Liverpool.

I think he'll do well in the Prem. The Arse need more signings besides him, but if this comes off it could take them a long way towards challenging for the title.

According to a Russian football official (doesn't matter who, I've never heard his name before) Keisuke Honda will "definitely" move to AC Milan as a free agent.

Tottenham have agreed a £17million deal to bring Brazilian midfielder Paulinho to White Hart Lane, his club Corinthians have confirmed.

The 24-year-old will be Andre Villas-Boas' first signing of the summer as he looks to mount a challenge on the top four of the Premier League once again.

Paulinho is ahead of £30m Manchester City signing Fernandinho, 28, in the pecking for the Brazilian national side and Spurs are confident that they have signed the better player.

Spurs had been told earlier in the week they would have to up the ante on a bid for Paulinho, with the North London club originally hoping to pay in the region of £15m.

But with interest mounting in the player Spurs have decided to meet his release clause, which stands at £17m.

Paulinho, who scored Brazil’s equaliser against England in this month’s friendly, had said he will not make a decision until after the Confederations Cup.

Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma are also interested in the 15-cap international, but Spurs look to have beaten them to the signature.

Barcelona are making a desperate and concerted last-ditch attempt to keep Thiago Alcantara at Camp Nou and prevent a widely anticipated transfer to Manchester United.
Sources privy to the negotiations have told ESPN that the Catalan club have tried a number of "stalling tactics" with both Old Trafford officials and the player himself, in order to halt any deal and persuade the midfielder to stay. Although United still feel confident of eventually securing the purchase, they are getting "increasingly frustrated" and ideally want to have it tied up within the next seven days - especially with Chelsea and, to a lesser extent, Bayern Munich hovering.
The Premier League champions have agreed personal terms with Thiago and are set to more than treble his wages, but the player’s camp are open to at least weighing up what Barcelona have to say. It is understood that the Catalans were "stunned" at the reality that the play-maker would actually go through with a move, and have been moved into sudden action. One Old Trafford source likened it to United’s reaction at the realisation that Paul Pogba was intent on leaving for Juventus.
Barcelona, however, are now prepared to offer Thiago much greater guarantees and are particularly playing up the idea that he is the successor to a 33-year-old Xavi. The Spanish legend will likely play less next season, simply as a consequence of the accumulation of fixtures over the past five years as well as his age.
Thiago’s main concern at the moment is getting as much football as possible, in order to force his way into Spain’s World Cup squad. As such, Barca will essentially have to come close to matching United’s assurances that the 22-year-old will be a certain starter.
Any prospective transfer is also not quite so simple as the Old Trafford club just triggering his release clause to take Barcelona out of the equation. Even then, a number of terms about any deal still have to be agreed between the clubs. The Catalans have in the meantime attempted to leverage that situation, while also requesting a first-refusal in the event of any transfer.

Mundo Deportivo believe that Barcelona are set to announce the signing of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 21-year-old has been linked with the Blaugrana in the past, and the Barcelona-based newspaper insist that the Camp Nou club will reveal the shot-stopper’s arrival imminently.

The Germany international will, according to the sports daily, sign for an undisclosed fee, thought to be worth around €12m.

Ter Stegen will put pen-to-paper with Tito Vilanova’s men, but is set to stay with the Bundesliga team for another season so as to get more regular football.

Looks like Southampton are going on a big money spree.

There are reports Southampton offered €20m for Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, but the Roma striker does not want the Premier League.

Osvaldo has a very fractious rapport with the Giallorossi supporters, former Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli and clashed with some of his teammates too.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Southampton put forward a bid worth €20m for the Italy international who was born and raised in Argentina.

The 27-year-old was specifically requested by manager Mauricio Pochettino, who already worked with him at Espanyol.

However, it is believed Osvaldo does not want to join a Premier League club, as he either hopes to stay in Serie A or move back to La Liga.

He had already been linked with Tottenham in recent weeks. Osvaldo was dropped from the Confederations Cup squad after publicly insulting Roma Coach Andreazzoli.

20M for 27 year old Osvaldo?

Does Southampton want Downing? Only 10M!

Roma signed him for €17.5 million back in 2011 and he has averaged a goal every other league game so I guess the valuation was never likely to decrease from his original cost.

On a sidenote,

Bafetimbi Gomis insists he will make the final call on his future, as Lyon hint at a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The France international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Welsh rivals Swansea City and Cardiff City said to be monitoring his situation.

Lyon are prepared to offload the 27-year-old as they attempt to free up funds for further additions.

Gomis has, however, made it clear that he will not be dictated to and forced to move against his wishes.

He said: "I will choose where I play next season.

"It sounds like Lyon have already made their choice, but I haven't."

Gomis was responding to comments from Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas in which he appeared to suggest that an agreement was close to being reached with Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar.

He told Aujourd'hui: "We have received an offer from Shakhtar Donetsk. It is a fantastic offer and we could agree with them."

Wonder what happened to Lyon. Thought they were quite a prudent club and made profits from the sales of Essien, Diarra and Malouda.

SOUTHAMPTON have launched a £15m bid for Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is battling with Inter Milan to land the Belgium international who said he had been made a generous offer.

Nainggolan, 25, said: “I have received a very tempting offer from Southampton.

“Their proposal is the most attractive from an economic standpoint. But I do not play for the money. My priority is to have a major career.”

Pochettino has already splashed out £8.5m on Lyon defender Dejan Lovren and has agreed a £10m fee with Celtic for midfield powerhouse Victor Wanyama.

Pochettino also wants to recruit a winger and striker before the Premier League kicks off, with Fenerbahce’s former Chelsea wide-man Miroslav Stoch on his hit list.

Saints chairman Nicola Cortese has been promised £30m to spend by the club’s Swiss owners but that could rise to more than £45m.

Naiggolan is very good, I think 15M is what his actual value is, but I would expect him to be available closer to 10M. Southampton seem to be in on quite a few smart signings though.
