Hahahahaha this is getting weirder by the post!!

We've got a dish over here called

Skipperlabskovs

I've litterally never understood what was going on with that name.

Skipper = Captain
Lab = ? Hand, perhaps
Skovs = Forrest (skov) with an extra s and then it's not a Danish word anymore.

It doesn't not make any sense at all. It tastes delightful though.

Yep, that's the one. That's why we're called 'Scousers', after the dish, not, as many think, the other way round.

I did not know that.

Cheers FFF.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Liverpool have slammed the door shut on transfer negotiations for top targets Luis Suarez and Charlie Adam, as they despair at inflated fees for their top targets.

The Anfield club’s American owners have reached the end of their patience in talks for striker Suarez and midfielder Adam, with both potential deals floundering over a massive gulf in valuations.

Ajax have insisted that Suarez will cost £30million, while the Reds have offered half that, with chairman Tom Werner insisting the Dutch club’s figure is simply unreasonable.

Liverpool have now conveyed a similar sentiment to Blackpool over a proposed deal for Adam, who is rated by his club at £14million, while the Merseyside outfit have offered £4.5million.

Adam has put in an official transfer request and Suarez has now held talks with Ajax in a bid to persuade them to be more reasonable over a price before the window closes at the beginning of February.

And Werner has made it clear that unless the fees come down before the end of the transfer window, then his club will switch targets or even leave January without any new signings.

Ajax boss Frank De Boer has cheekily set a Saturday deadline for any deal to be done for Suarez, and suggested that, after that date, the fee will rise by another £5million.

But Liverpool will stick to their guns and refuse to talk further, in the hope that the Dutch club come to their senses and accept a more reasonable valuation in line with average European transfer fees, rather than those artificially inflated by Manchester City’s millions.

Liverpool have been watching a host of other players, and if they can’t get Suarez they will look towards Ashley Young at Aston Villa – though his price is also high – and Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

i don't know suarez well enought to say what i think he's worth, but if we spend 25 mill on a player then they should be potentially world class. i'm sure there are others around in that price range we could turn our attention towards.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Are they hoping to land a bargain like they did when they bought LFC through a court case?

Fuck they will....

While Ajax's valuation of 30 million is crappy, it probably is a response to us tabling a bid for 12 million pounds - which is just as ridiculous.

They need to get real. If they take this attitude, they have got to really trawl the market for non-marquee gems. Which is easier said than done.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

fuck ...

skully - we spent 22 million on Torres, and there is NO WAY anyone could have predicted that he'd take such a leap ... all these big signings are 'risky' ...

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We need to bear in mind that NESV regard us as a business; Suarez isnt worth 30 million.

I just hope we had alternatives; we could probably land Benzema for half that.

We're seen as a soft touch and this is because we've spent years buying overpriced shit players we later cant sell.

That has to end.

I dunno mate - I was worried about Torres, and I had watched a few of his matches. I strongly doubt anyone thought he'd be as good as he's been. I've watched Suarez a few times for Ajax and Uruguay (world cup), and tbh, I have the same concerns (for different reasons).

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Ok, even if these dont come off, one thing it will mea is that come the summer, no one will doubt the new owners ability to walk away if prices get silly.

May stop us being bummed senseless every summer with extortionate fees.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We're not gonna sign anyone are we? Its a 0% I think

We also spent £20m each on Robbie Keane and Aquilani. Not to mention a right back who can't defend.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

It's all bluster, we're scaring them back to the table.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Prices are unrealistic. £30 for Suarez won't do.

Agree about Torres. I'm more optimistic about Suarez (IF we get him) than I was back then.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Torres' poor performance was down to injuries, tactics and Roy.

Gerrard behind Suarez and Torres would be an awesome and would put the fear of Liverpool in any team.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Jules : That's because we all thought the blond girl woud be bullied off the ball in England; but he's pretty tough.

Suarez is a loon.

Big danger kimosabe.

i agree. if the deals don't happen because of the reported price tags then i think that's basically a good thing, the owners need to be resolute. if suarez is going to cost £25m+ then i'd honestly prefer we left it until the summer and gave ajax 6 months to think about his dwindling contract, and the same goes for blackpool and charlie adam.

incidentally, this window has shown exactly how true it is that january's a lousy time to do deals: tbf, i sympathise with ajaz and especially blackpool - why should they let him go when their premier league future's on the line?
