Who of our rivals would pay 'anything' though? Chelsea don't very often these days, Arsenal certainly don't and United don't these days either. Only City do. Teams only do it when the money is there. United have been priced out of moves for players in recent years because of the competitiveness of other clubs.
mark, my point is they identified the guy as their top target so if our valueation is off by (for example) 8 million, isn't it better to spend that 8m on our NUMBER ONE target then gave save money on our second choice target. didn't we bulk at the vidic price and subsequently move for skrtel? well...the prosecution rests, your honour.
On Vidic, I thought we'd agreed a deal only for Man Utd to trump us by about 3m or so. We were never going to get into an auction for him once a price had been agreed. Skrtel (Agger?) wasn't much cheaper in the end.

Is that really true though regards Vidic? He signed for United for £7m, we signed Skrtel for £6.5m.
never let the fact's get in the way of a good argument. 😉
I thought we were outbid by manu, I thought it was a case of dithering and then manu snatching him up. could be wrong though 😛

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

It was Agger, Skrtel joined us 2 or 3 years after Vidic went to Utd

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

This isn't going to happen is it?

Reports today is we offered 18 and they still want 20, we also offered Babel and they said they want him, because he can play LW RW and Centre and would be ideal, except the wage cut he offered to take wasn't low enough.

there doing me 'ed in

ohhh...2m!!!

fling 3m more on that and that's poulsen right there.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We cried all the time that clubs kept ripping us off over the last 10 years.

We never seem to get a bargain do we?

I don't know if its us or them calling the bluff, but they want Torres money and he ain't no Torres is he?

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We got a bargain with Torres.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We did looking back, but at the time it did seem a hell of a lot of money, people gawped at the price we paid.

You could say we got a bargain with Alonso too, but that was his price at the time, so it was just the going rate (if you know what I mean), but this one looks like Ajax want a Man City / Chelski fee for him, and we are no Man City or Chelski.

Yet they say the 5.8 we want for Bable is 'too much' adding his wages into it???

I mean FUCK OFF Ajax

£20-22 million would be a bargain for Suarez too.

I wonder what world LFC are living in sometimes, Darren Bent just went for £24million, I don't know why we think can buy players for peanuts.

It could be 24 with add ons, but its 17 as it stands, and thats the English factor too isn't it? In England we have to pay a Premium for English players

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Jeez, you lot are a bunch are impossible to please.

He will sign for us.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Just sit back and wait for it to happen. The more you look at these no marks on twitter claiming to have information solely as an attempt to get a retweet, the more frustrated you will become.

He will join us, I have faith that we are for once playing hard ball knowing that Ajax are not in a position to be turning down £18-19m for one of their players.

Announcement on #LFC website at 12.30 "not related to transfers, players, manager, stadium or Chief Exec search". Nothing important then...?

So erm, what the fuck is it related to then? What else deserves an announcement? A new tv channel?!

It's quite a clever move TBH.

They're doing it without direct involvement from SoS, so whilst managing not to offend them, or give them a reason to be offended, as they're doing what SoS asked, they're effectively removing SosS 'power' as 'voice of the fans' & transferring it to a more standardised format.

I like the idea Jon, and it's a good move by the owners mate. But I was hoping for a bit more exciting announcement.. 🙂
