Caffe Nero

It's too early for this

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

According to SiClancy who is an BBC radio producer, the Suarez deal is very close to being done.

Fingers crossed.

mah mah mah amah, c lose to being done, much progress made, blah blah blah. It's not that hard, just sign the fucker.

Having said that, if we get him for closer to 15m than 25m, I'll be impressed with our newly found balls, its rare we've managed to talk the price down that effectively before.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Ryan, your oharemeter is required in the Charlie Adam thread.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

I'd like us to be doing ridiculous bids and when ajax start getting fed up offer 18mil. Ideally they'll be shocked by a relatively "sensible" bid that they'll accept

"we'll give you 5 mil"
"no"
5.2?"
No
"4.9?"
What?!
"ok 6"
For fucks sake...
"18 then"
What...erm...what....ok

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

The Comolli interview is pre the home game vs Wolves btw

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Funnily enough I don't imagine our bidding tactics to be far off what you imagine happens, fab

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

It must be terrible after all the effort that goes into 'preparing a bid'. First there was the sacrifices, then the star gazing, then the seance, and then once an inchoate bid has been constructed it's placed under a sacred chicken where it grows in the warmth until hatched - and only then is it presented to the other team. When they laugh at it, you can kind of understand negotiations breaking down.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Ok I lied A bit about the coffee readings

It revealed the number "8".

I have yet to discover the meaning.

In hoping some beer & red wine will enlighten me further.

It's possible we should look for a sign from Gerrard or there will be news at 8pm tonight!!!

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

nesv plan on reaching the top in five years (their words on the LFC.TV) so if the club identifies a player as helping them towards that goal shouldn't pay that to secure their first choice targets? does their 5 year business allow for the margin of securing 2nd choice footballers?

wasn't that what happened with alves, obvious world class talent and we bulked at the price choosing instead to go for several options instead to pad out the squad?
to tell the truth I'm more interested in quality in wide positions but the principle is the same, be single minded in going for your first choice signings. how much better off as a club would we have been if we paid that little bit extra for quality rather than padding out the squad with quantity.

I agree, but we can't allow ourselves to be raped in the transfer market either, that would be naive and would be going to the other extreme. What has Suarez done to warrant a £25m price tag?

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

This is so not gonna happen. Typical Liverpool, we'll get outbid and just scurry away like the losers we are.

I really tried not to get my hopes up too.

Black Ristretto, with a blend of whipped milk. No sugar.

Cheers.

I was reading a book the other day about identifying your targets and then being ruthless in the pursuit of those targets. if nesv are going to draw up a plan and then move the goal posts because the price wasn't what they expected how serious are they about reaching the top because our rivals WILL secure most of their first choice signings.

the galling thing is from what I've red of FSG they ARE ruthless in securing their top targets when it comes to baseball (2nd biggest spenders after the yankees).

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Again I ask - how does it effect any of us personally if they go and spend boatloads on good players? I want them to. I invest fairly heavily in the club, I want them to go all Madrid and Citeh.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Who of our rivals would pay 'anything' though? Chelsea don't very often these days, Arsenal certainly don't and United don't these days either. Only City do. Teams only do it when the money is there. United have been priced out of moves for players in recent years because of the competitiveness of other clubs.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Mark, 25 million is steep and Ajax will probably come down, but we'd have to pay 20 million or thereabouts if we want a player of his calibre. The Mancs paid 19 million for Horseface (some 9 years back mind) and Suarez has a similar scoring record (probably better) in Holland. He's also just had an excellent world cup which would have added to his stock.

As another random fact (think I've mentioned it before), he's scored over 100 goals in just 4 seasons for Ajax. That's phenomenal - he's only the 4th player in Ajax's history to reach that mark. The previous three were Cruyff, van Basten, and Bergkamp. If he turns out to be anything near their level, that 20 million or so could be money very well spent.

Snap. I don't get these people who talk about 'Oooh if Ajax want an extra £2mil we should move on to the next target'.

Why?

If the player is what you need sometimes you have to pay the price asked. Look at all the players we missed out in the past over a couple of million, like Alves, Young (first time round) Simao. And just we flunk millions on crap, as part of their transfers or salaries.

Pay for quality for flips sake, and stop wasting money on crap.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

if nesv plan is to buy the best teenage talent in world football and pay the premium for them, build them up and then have a world class team in 3-4 years then do that and stop wasting people's time with nickle and dime shit going after established older more mature (therefore more expensive) targets because it's making us look like paupers.

[/quote]

He's done enough for club and country to warrant a fee around the 20M mark in the current market.

Besides, you're not always paying for achievements that can be listed on paper, are you... you're paying for talent.

That I agree with, I'm talking more when the margin of difference is closer to £10m, as is reportedly the case.

I agree that he's probably worth about £20m, but some of the fees quoted are ranging from £25m-£28m.

mark, my point is they identified the guy as their top target so if our valueation is off by (for example) 8 million, isn't it better to spend that 8m on our NUMBER ONE target then gave save money on our second choice target. didn't we bulk at the vidic price and subsequently move for skrtel? well...the prosecution rests, your honour.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

I'd say quoting slightly higher than you're willing to accept is a standard negotiating technique. About £20 millions with add ons based on achievement sounds like a fair deal.

What did Torres do to warrant a £25mill price tag before he came? Same as Suarez, really. We were paying for the talent and potential.

Is that really true though regards Vidic? He signed for United for £7m, we signed Skrtel for £6.5m.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

again, I can't say I'm truly that bothered as I know very little about the guy but the PRINCIPLE is annoying me. I was apoplectic with rage when we passed on alves and then to rub salt in the fucking wound we instead went for jamaine fucking pennent.

I largely agree Neil, I just think that it's naive to not draw a line. He's worth £20m, not £28m though.
