Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

We are taking too long to get this transfer sorted
[/quote]

Again, it's Babel that seems to be the main reason it's taking so long. If we could finalise his deal, I'm sure this would go a lot quicker.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Frickin get it done already. That's two work days wasted now already and I'll probably have to ask for a new keyboard as F5 on this one will break soon.

#lfc's deal for Suarez gathering pace. I'm told @John_W_Henry met his agent for dinner in London last night

John Henry flying over to negotiate signings shows just how much we need a strong CEO & a permanent FSG presence in Liverpool

We should not be letting anything Babel wants or does not want get in the way of any deal. If Ajax want him as part of the deal fine , do it, if they don't , just pay the cash JH, and worry about off-loading Babel later.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

What I mean is that getting rid of Babel will free up money and wages. I don't think NESV are as liberal with money as some are making out.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

I think our position is a bit more flaky than worrying about wages and money to be honest, and not the £5m or £6m that they are talking of for Babel.
Take Villa for example, Randy has just spunked a load of money out of desperation on a forward to start climbing up from the foot of the table.
Look, I don't know that much about Suarez to be honest, but he has to be better than any of our alternatives. We have been desperate for another striker for two years now, if we don't finish in a semi respectable position and show some ambition we will struggle signing and or keeping anything like the best players.
I think ( hope) JH will see it as a bonus if we shift Babel, and not a necessity.
In fact shit as he is , I am not sure if we should be taking him out of the squad at all.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Oh, I know we need a striker and have done for a few years. But, the fact is our new owners are keeping a close eye on our books, and getting a few of the non-playing high earners of the wage bill is going to be a priority. IT'd be great if we could sign all the players we need, without getting rid of some, but I can't see that happening. Obviously this is all just my opinion.

Apologies meeting was in Liverpool not London.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Oh very interesting!

If its in Liverpool he has had the tour and met the stars, maybe had a medical?

I can see what you are saying Gerry, I just hope you are wrong and that JH understands the seriousness of the situation and that he has to take a few calculated risks at the moment, and try and get some decent players in regardless of selling, or the great deal he did will start blowing up in his face.

Would explain a lot actually if we had developed a strange routine of taking agents through the medicals instead of the actual players.

Bet y'a both Aurelio, Aquilani and Agger's agents are fitter than their clients.

*Actually Agger's agent certainly doesn't apear in super shape but perhaps he's got a stronger back?

How many penalties did he score last season?

I didn't say we didn't a striker but I'm far more concerned with the chances we fail to create than the chances we fail to put away.

I would say that the stats show we actually create loads of chances but don't have a great conversion rate

I remember the spurs game specifically but have we really been create good chances? look at torres' stats for this season, okay you could partly put that down to being in a slump but how many chances have we been giving him?

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

Suarez can definitely create chances as well as put them away, a lot of his goals are from penalties he's won himself, the odd free kick and from 12-18 yards.

Torres has been more than culpable this season, as has Kuyt, but the chances have been there, we created enough in the first half at the weekend to bury Everton, failure to put those chances away cost us.

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

It was also noticeable that when Torres decides he can be arsed to run about a bit that we create chances a bit more easily

Re: Suarez paves the way for Anfield switch as Babel nears the exit door

As ever SSN excelling in news reporting - showing suarez as having a 1.75 goals/game record...

2007/08 Ajax Netherlands 54 28 1.93
2008/09 Ajax Netherlands 53 29 1.83
