The elephant in the room is that Ajax have said they don't want to sell, and certainly not at the prices mooted. Suarez might want to come, his agent might want him to come, and he might want to come, but if Ajax want to keep him until the end of the season then that's it.

Should we therefore sign someone else instead, sign a lesser player now and hope we can afford whatever Suarez' price may be next summer as well, or struggle on and wait the season out? I'm not velcroed to the Suarez option so I favour looking elsewhere.

That was my standpoint when we were looking at Roy Hodgson as the manager. Although this site had the news confirmed for ages, i was hoping for some one else to be appointed till the last minute.
But here I think i'll jump at this.
He has got a fantastic technique, good pace and plenty of creativity. He is also very young and has quite a bit of his playing career ahead of him and is hungry for success. All things we miss in our team currently.
I think we need to get a couple of 20 million players after selling some of the sale-able assets like Aquilani, Babel, Agger etc and rely on the younger players to beef up the squad and play the support role. Hopefully the 20 million signings are more like the Torres/Masher deals and not like the Robbie Keane/Aquilani deals. But i'm thinking the odds of going wrong on the Suarez deal is quite minimal (relatively).
