WTF???? Seriously?

Much better than Steve Bruce's last week with some betting company plastered across his back, thank fuck Brendan doesn't have to have a Standard Chartered sticker on his.

We are Liverpool and we are stylish.
*dont mention Voronin.
Or Cisse.
Or Babel.
Or any of our players past, present or future for that matter.

Sturridge is total class and complete bargain. I don't care who gets dropped,SAS all the way. Each of them are great, but as a pair can be unplayable.

Who loses out for him?
It won't be Gerrard or Lucas so one of three players are going to be very unlucky.
On current form it could be Coutinho that loses out but I love when Coutinho plays with Suarez and Sturridge.
Its hard to leave Sterling out either given how he's blossoming with game time.
It will be tough for Rodgers but it's a great complaint to have.

Coutinho. For now anyway.

As harsh as it is it has to be Sterling to miss out, Coutinho is to vital linking it all up from the middle of the park to the front, we want Sturridge and Suarez on the ball as much as possible and Coutinho will make that happen.

We can even play all 4 in some games.

Disagree fellas. Coutinho's too big a talent not to come back into form, but for me Sterling is having a bigger impact in games. I don't think he can be dropped in current form.

We probably wouldn't do all that badly if we shunted Hendo or Sterling off to RB...

I mean is it possible for them to do all that much worse than our current fullbacks are?

If not, I think Studge comes off the bench again against Villa, replacing one of Coutinho/Sterling. He looked fantastic in a short spell, but I have no idea how fit he is. I'm sure by the time he's ready to start matches, likely in 1-2 weeks, someone will either get hurt or play their way out of the squad.

That was top class. I think a lot of players would stop playing and hold their hands behind their head in a gesture of disbelief after the first save. Instead, Sturridge kept his eye on the ball even after running past the touch line, and was super cool in his 2nd attempt.

Also, see where Suarez is after the pass to Sturridge - he didn't stand and marvel at his pass but was immediately running into the box behind their defender looking for a possible return ball; the opponent wasn't even aware of his presence until Suarez had gotten several paces' headstart on him.

That is just proper strikers' hunger and composure. Very well played.

----------------------Studge---------------------

Suarez-------------Coutinho-----------Sterling

Against Villa next week, yes. If we were playing away next week I'd drop Coutinho, Sterling has played to well, and Coutinho is making all of our player like last year.

I think now that Sturridge is back, we can finally have some tactical variety. We can adjust to the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent for maximum effect. For weaker teams at home we can play Brendan's version of very fluid 4-4-2, so Suarez, Sturridge, Coutihno and Sterling can all be on the pitch at the same time. When we need more control and pressure in the middle, switch to an inverted midfield triangle (2 CMs, 1 DM). For a more defensive/counterattacking shape, a regular midfield triangle (1 CM, 2 DMs) could work. When Allen returns, we will have enough quality players to execute all of these formations successfully.

I really hope once Sakho returns we will no more reshuffling at the CB position. Watching Arsenal today again brings it home how important a good, settled CB pairing can be. When Mertesacker and Koscielny – each one on his own not a world class defender, but compensating each other's weaknesses very well – play together, they concede 0.5 goals per game. Imagine if we had that + SAS and co. scoring goals for fun. We would win the title easily.

The big difference Sturridge made when he came on against Stoke was that suddenly we had another major outlet on the break. There were a couple instances in which he carried the ball from the halfway line and was at their goal in next to no time. One of those instances resulted in a goal.

In his absence, Sterling has been doing a great job at getting in behind the defence but he's been running that racket on his own pretty much.

Hopefully we will now see defences in that horrible dilemma of a) having to face one of Sturridge / Sterling running in behind them or b) Suarez having the ball close to their goal.

It's quite an exciting prospect.

We've got to be careful with Studge though, he's done this before where he's come back firing on all cylinders and then looked fucked. I hope we're wrapping him in cotton wool, especially this time of year when players notoriously pick up strains and pulls.

He shouldn't start against Villa. We've no need to rush him as we have other talent who should put Villa to the sword.

Bring him on for the last 20 regardless of score, and see how we get on.

I'm chuffed the Sturridge is back but ease the lad in. He'll still score goals when he comes on. Sterling deserves an extended run in the team.

From what i saw against arsenal last night villa are so there for the taking. We can play sterling, coutinho, studge and suarez against them. They sit back a lot.

Yes, good point about them sitting back. Lambert has a reputation as a progressive young manager, but the only time Villa ever troubled Arsenal yesterday was by playing simple route one football, pumping crosses into the box.

The best way to approach playing them, I think, is to push them so deep that they can't get in good positions to cross and the strikers are isolated. Their defense will definitely crack if placed under sustained pressure. But our CBs and DM can never lose concentration because Benteke and Agbonlahor are both very quick and even a long hopeful punt can become a goalscoring opportunity if misplayed.
