Don't see this mentioned anywhere (apologies if it has been) but according to Rodgers, he's ahead of schedule and could be in contention for Stoke away on 12th Jan!

What a boost it will be to have him back! Suarez's form since he returned from his ban has grabbed the headlines and rightly so but we can't overlook Sturridge's impact either...particularly in the opening 7 or 8 games!

Looking forward to seeing that cringey dance again very soon!

A most welcome boost especially with the latest additions to our injury list.
If he comes back and plays like he did at the start of the season we will be so much more dangerous with the opposition having to concentrate on two dangerous forwards rather than just Suarez.

Given the initial assessments and the sudden good news now on Gerrard's and Sturridge's expected early return, I wonder if we're rushing them back early given the new injuries in the squad. I hope not; I'd rather we gave them the proper recovery time needed instead of pushing them to return early and risking further aggravation or even a new injury linked to the existing one.

I think we have been bringing players back from these non-surgery injuries much earlier than initial prognoses.

Man City and Chelsea were the two games where we really missed Sturridge, our team in good enough to take the next few games, so rest him until he's 110% ready.

yep, he could have made the difference, although man city has aguerro missing too!

Or maybe just being very conservative in the initial estimations.

Suarez needs a rest desperately. It showed all the way back a few weeks ago, but the fact that even on 70% he can score two goals a game & set a couple up hides it, but you can see he misses a beat on his first touch, & is nowhere near his top level when he is running the line game after game.

Absolutely. I'd add that we don't look sharp enough in front of goal without him or the Studge in the team and on their game. Maybe a striker is needed this month.

Dean Sturridge said during today's match commentary that he would definitely be ready for the Villa game with a good chance of being available for Stoke

Suarez was definitely off his best yesterday and looked rather frustrated and petulant. If he hadnt scored that free kick I could have seen him getting a stupid second yellow.

We are needing some more scoring options and yesterday unfortunately went a ways to showing that Aspas is not likely to be the answer.

He was playing with an injury according to Rodgers. That foul from Cahill would have made 9 out of 10 players withdraw from the game but he played with a massive bandage and was probably in loads of pain.

He needs a rest vs Oldham

well I hope we dont go back to the bullshit SAS thing, i hate it because we dont play football and teams find us out when we do that. I have no idea how we will balance between the current style we are playing after studge comes back because we are also thrashing team without him. But the difference he will make in big matches will be unquestionable

There's definitely an issue that our overall control of the game was not as good when we played a 3-5-2 to accommodate Suarez and Studge as a front 2. Man City seem to be making a success out of a 4-4-2 system, perhaps we should give it a go. With Sterling on the right and Coutinho on the left of the 4 and Hendo and Gerrard/Lucas/Allen in CM. Either that or we go for a 4-2-3-1 with Suarez and Studge exchanging the number 9 and 10 positions as they see fit.

Results with the bullshit SAS
Sunderland (A) W 3-1
Palace (H) W 3-1
Newcastle (A) D 2-2
West Brom (H) W 4-1
Arsenal (A) L 0-2
Fulham (H) W 4-1

Played 6, won 4, draw 1. Average points: 2.166

Scored 16, conceded 8. Goals per game: 2.667, conceded: 1.333

Without SAS
Average points: 1.85
Goals per game: 2.14, conceded: 1.14

Admittedly a small sample size, but we tend to score more, win more, get more points and concede less with both of them in the team.

Man, my maths is shit, but that doesn't look right. We conceded 8 goals in those 6 games.

So will we go 4-2-3-1 with suarez playing just off studge in a free role? Will sterling be dropped even though he has been one of our better players recently?

We should bring him on for Suarez after 60 mins or so (or earlier if the game is well won) to see if he's fit.

If so play him for a couple of weeks instead of Suarez.

Get the best out of the team playing possession footy again & Coutinho playing behind an out & out striker (he's well better with Sturridge ahead of him).

Then worry about fitting them in after that, Sterling, Gerrard or Henderson get an injury & suarez as a number 10 would be the obvious solution. Suarez comes back fully rested & it wouldnt matter if we couldn't control the match cos he'll simply score three goals from his five touches.

Only reason coutinho plays better with studge is because no one knows what suarez is gonna do next.

Can't see suarez getting a couple of weeks rest. Maybe a game or 2 MAX but that's about it. Even then i can't see that happening. We're only playing one game a week so Suarez being the machine that he is can manage that.

I can see us going 4-3-3 with our front 3 of studge, suarez and coutinho interchanging. I think sterling is gonna see some bench time.
