Daniel Sturridge is expected back at Liverpool this weekend after a successful rehabilitation process in the United States and could make his first-team comeback at Manchester United on 12 September.
The Liverpool striker underwent a hip operation in New York in May to resolve several long-standing injury problems that restricted the 25-year-old to only 18 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ team last season.

Sturridge has spent the majority of his recovery period in Boston under the auspices of the Red Sox’s sports science and medical staff, also employed by Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group. He has been assessed in Boston this week by Glen Driscoll and Chris Morgan, Liverpool’s head of performance and head of physiotherapy respectively, and is due to travel back to Melwood with the pair this weekend having responded well to the operation and fitness programme.

The England international will be eased back into first-team training initially, with Liverpool reluctant to take any risks on a player who suffered two thigh injuries, a calf strain and a hip problem last season.
However, Sturridge is expected to be in contention for a competitive return after three weeks’ training, giving the striker a chance of featuring in the trip to Old Trafford.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are continuing to assess Jordan Henderson’s foot injury before their Premier League game at Arsenal on Monday. The club captain has not discovered the extent of a problem that forced him out of the win over Bournemouth. Henderson had a scan on his foot on Tuesday but will be monitored daily.

I said this yesterday, it'll be sods law for Origi and Ings that he gets fit and stays fit. Great to have him back though.

So he'll be back for the scum game, play about 20mins, tear his glass hip, and be out for another 4months. And repeat.

He's a guaranteed starter when (if ever) fit, but I presume the boss has got to go with the diamond again when he's back. Can't see him or Benteke wanting to play as a wing forward.

Yeah, you'd think the diamond.

He ain't going to play Benteke out on the wing, he ain't Rafa!

Now Sturridge? Maybe.

It's an interesting one, because Sturridge came to LFC on the understanding that he wouldn't be played regularly out wide. Benteke's never been as one-dimensional as some of the more extreme posts on here described him before he signed, but there *is* IMO a question about the extent to which he's suited to the kind of interchange between the front players which Rodgers wants to see and, if he isn't, how that might affect others around him, Sturridge perhaps more than anyone.

Sturridge needs to earn the right to be the star man. He might not feel that he has to but times have changed and right now nobody is looking past his injuries.

He struggled last season when he came back. I was critical of his effort and his body language, he looked like he had a gob on and he wasn't working hard, but then he was struggling to overcome injury. I think even if he's back this time, it'll take at least a few months to get upto speed, so he's going to have to deal with it and realise the team is more important. There's no point in us forcing him into a side and accommodating him getting his sharpness back. Luckily with a few more, better options this time we have that luxury of being able to play him in cup games or off the bench to ease him back in, without worrying so much about where the goals will come from.

I have absolutely zero faith in the lad staying fit.
Sad but true.
Right now all I see is 160k a week
Exactly my view

I honestly feel he's as likely to get a consistent run in the team as balotelli. But for different reasons obviously
