2018 world cup around the corner.
Refused to go to China for a big pay day.
And this latest update from Klopp:
"Daniel could be part of full pre-season so far. He is looking good, in the best condition since I’ve been here."

Could he finally be healthy?

What are we expecting of him this season?

If he stay fits he plays every single game and he certainly starts in the central position ahead of firmino as he's without a doubt he best goal scorer we have. He might not work hard or defend from the front like firmino but he is far more likely to score in just about every situation

I'd work him like a dog until the inevitable injury and then revert to firmino , or rotate the two or whatever

We've been bitten before, but when fit he's undoubtedly one of the top players at the club and as said, the best goalscorer we have and one of the best goalscorers in the league. He looked sharp and quick in one of the recent friendlies. I don't think the pace thing is an issue in itself, but him not making the runs he once did, to anticipate a chance, could be the biggest psychological hurdle - if he's not breaking into those runs for fear of pulling up.

He deserves a chance because of his record and his previous quality. I have doubts about whether he has the work ethic to be Klopp's number one striker, but he's a huge influence in other ways in terms of goals, so even if he does play a smaller role than he once did, he can still be priceless to us, especially with games coming thick and fast.

And if he can stay fit, because that's the biggest ask of him, then (sorry for the cliche), but it's like a new signing.

At his best a great player. Who seriously reckons we'll see his best again? Not me. Limited playing time for me.

Firmino certainly does not have the same goalscorer's instincts, but will bring the best out in those around him.

Injuries

Ah jaysis not the eternal optimist thread about Studge..

Jesus, even I've come to terms with his glass nature. We'll neverget a good season out of 'im!

Sell!

Mark Gonzales. I was dead sure he was going to be a superstar.

Before that Kewell. I was 100% sure he was the final piece in the jigsaw.

Being fit is one thing, and it's great if he is, and can stay fit, because as we all know, he's a quality finisher.

But I'm afraid that isn't the whole story. Fully fit Daniel Sturridge 2017 may still not be the same player as fully fit Daniel Sturridge of 2014.

Yes, he finishes a 100m race about 3 seconds later.

Problem is that even if he stayed injury free and even if he rediscovered his 2014 form (and lets be honest thats a MASSIVE if) he still lacks the work rate that klopp wants from his striker so won't get picked. Rightly or wrongly klopp expects some serious mileage from his no.9 which sturridge doesn't do. At his best in 2014 it didn't matter because suarez did the work of two men allowing sturridge to get away with it. Even at the end of the season we played two up front so origi did the work for him. But if we go back to a front 3 he won't have that luxury.

I refuse to get my hopes up. He's just been too injury prone over the years. Even his best season of 13-14 he spent two months out at one stage and another game or two at the tail end of the season. Even if he stays fit for 3/4s of the season he may not have the pace that made him so dangerous in the first place.
