No 2 to Jose Mourinho at Chelsea is being earmarked to be Kennys number 2

Great Move, if anyone is to understand what is required he will do, having worked with Jose..

Re: Steve Clarke

While I'd have preferred Thommo, Clarke has bags of experience and been number two to some good managers.

Phil Thompson
Gary McAllister
Didi Hamann

I want one of them.
None of them have the expereince that Steve Clarke has..

I'd have Mcallister and Didi as coaches..

I know, but I'm biased 😉
We need to drop that bias imo. Dalglish fine, Thompson? Nah he's had his time.

Clarke has a good record and knows how to be a no 2.

lol I'd say its an upgrade on Sammy lee and that biff Kelly, most definitely

Been linked with the Charlton vacancy. Doubt we'll get an accomplished no.2 though, since there's yet to be a perm appointment.

Charlton Manager or Liverpool No2..

I think if i was Steve Clarke, i'd know what I would choose. With Liverpool he would be able to enhance his reputation and put his experience at top level football to use, with Charlton their is a danger he would be forgotten about within 12 months...

I don't think it's that simple though. This is his chance to become a no.1, and that means a lot to some. It would also mean he wouldn't have to move house, and we've seen with Rafa how important family considerations are when such choices have to be made.

I'd prefer him to the likes of Thommo. Experienced no 2 to title winning teams who clearly knows how to build a good relationship with the players under his stewardship. I'm afraid the era of shouty first team coaches such as Thommo is over, and other candidates are lacking experience.

Strong rumours around the net that within the last hour the deal has already been agreed for him to become Liverpools Number 2. Also been on Local Radio.

Kenny wants the job long term. If Clarke has any self-belief he'll believe he can help him achieve that.

Let's face it, if Kenny stabilises us, it's gonna be nigh on impossible for the owners to justify replacing him.

Bloody sensible & ambitious too. Ideal foil for Kenny's enthusiasm as he'll doubtless no more about the modern nuances than Kenny, & will get respect from all the players due to previous achievements & experience.

Thankfully neither am I!

I believe the NOTW is saying Kenny wants the job long-term, but they and one or two radio people are the only ones I'm aware of who are saying that, and it doesn't square with the reports which were around last summer when Kenny put his name forward. If he DOES want it long-term next summer, that'll be a new situation which we'll have to address at the time.

Hmmm, hang on a sec, let me dig out one sentence that jumped at me from his interview.

Got it:

Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish said:
I'm fortunate to come back, even if it's only to the end of the season it makes no difference to me, this place is very special and all we can do is try our best to move the club forward a bit and try to win some more games.

I admit it's only one small part, but that tiny bit of a sentence is key. There's no need for it if you have no ambition to want the job longer.

Clarke sounds like a good choice, considering the time Kenny's been out of the game. It should allow the King to concentrate on the important stuff that he's very good at.

I Believe Kenny does want the Job long term.. Of course he does... He has the hunger for it most definitely.

Steve Clarke irrespective of whether Kenny stays or not would be a sensible appointment and as Fox says very ambitious. Maybe this is part of NESV way of rebuilding the club from the ground up.

Will Clarke be interested in a six-month contract when he has no affinity to us whatsoever.

Surely we're not going to give Clarke a longer contract than Dalglish?

I dunno but another way of looking at it would be that he would be a good advisor to the club in the long term something the club lacks at present in terms of football matters on the field. From his point of view if its only to be six months he would have wider scope of jobs to choose from in the summer.
