LIVERPOOL FC are finally hoping to start work on their new stadium before April, the ECHO can reveal.

Liverpool Council leader Warren Bradley revealed that LFC managing director Christian Purslow had told the council the club hoped to make progress on the new ground in the first quarter of 2010.

Cllr Bradley also revealed, in an exclusive interview, that the local authority will hold high level talks with Everton FC about its own plans for a new ground on Monday, January 11.

EFC were forced back to the drawing board after the Government rejected a planned to move to Kirkby alongside Tesco in a £400m development.

Everton confirmed the meeting and said the club was hoping to set up a working party with senior officials and Cllr Bradley to move forward its hunt for a new home.

Liverpool council has been keen to keep the Blues within the city boundaries, whether at a new site or a revamped Goodison.

Cllr Bradley said: “We have got a meeting with Everton Football Club where we will put all our cards on the table. I will be there as will be council chief executive Colin Hilton and executive director of regeneration John Kelly.

“We want to make sure that we can facilitate things for Everton FC.

“They want to discuss Bellefield and the stadium. We fully understand they need some commercial support for a stadium.â€

Let's hope Purslow really means it.

you didn't paste page 2 of the article that ends.............

Today a spokesman for Liverpool FC said: “Construction of the stadium will begin when the current contraction in the banking industry ends and the global financial markets re-establish their equilibrium.â€

I don't know about you , but that does not sound the same as the line that CP was shooting to Warren Bradley, who could just be strirring the shite, he is a bluenose after all

"Cllr Bradley said it was pleasing to see that LFC was on the brink of making a start with its 60,000 seater ground on Stanley Park.

The lack of progress on the £400m stadium is one of the main sources of discontent among fans with the ownership of Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Cllr Bradley said: “Liverpool FC’s Christian Purslow has told us that the club in the first quarter of next year should be able to move forward with the stadium.

“We have told them it’s time to move on now, it’s gone on too long.

“I honestly believe Christian Purslow has been open and honest with us. Hopefully in the first quarter of next year we will see some movement. Without doubt it’s not before time.â€

Earlier this month the ECHO revealed how Mr Purslow was forced to open up the club’s finances to the England 2018 team in order to persuade officials to include Liverpool as a host city for the country’s bid to host the World Cup.

The Reds had to prove to FA bid bosses that it could deliver a new stadium and would be able to raise the cash.

Mr Purslow was forced to make the disclosures in front of Everton chief executive Robert Elstone as they made the final case for Liver-pool to be included in England’s World Cup bid.

Today a spokesman for Liverpool FC said: “Construction of the stadium will begin when the current contraction in the banking industry ends and the global financial markets re-establis their equilibrium.â€

Movement in what sense? Perhaps not in terms of commencement of construction but at least a move towards the right direction?

Purslow seems to be doing a fine job. Maybe beginning of construction in the yr of 2010 will be a safer bet vs. 1st quarter. 😛

That seems to be a spade in the ground

exactly.. thats probably the only movement (if any) you will see regarding the new stadium next year....

the new stadium.?. I will believe it when I see it...

I think Warren Bradely is being a bit clever, by turning Purslow's comments into more than they are , particularly saying this bit

"I honestly believe Christian Purslow has been open and honest with us"

If/when something concrete (no pun intended) does not happen, Bradley will start chucking this around to stir it up.

That's how I read it also. That and he seems very intent to get something going for Everton.

I didn't like the fact we had to share our financial position with someone from Everton, although, having said that I would be almost certain they knew it anyway as the Council would have leaked it to them anyway.

Ian Ayre has revealed that Liverpool's new stadium be sponsored, with an Asian company expected to win the naming rights.

The Reds' commercial director confirmed that talks had been held with several companies over the possible branding of the new arena in Stanley Park with building work due to begin at the start of April, according Liverpool City Council leader Warren Bradley.

Ayre refused to confirm or deny the claims but insisted that negotiations with potential partners were ongoing.

He said: “Naming rights is now an accepted part of building any new footballing venue in the world.

“And as one of only a few global football brands, it would be crazy of us not to tap into that opportunity.

“It is an area that some of our competitors have dabbled – Arsenal for example – and it is an opportunity for us to step forward.

"But what is important again is to find the right partner, who offers the right cultural fit. Who knows who that would be for Liverpool, but we have had some interest certainly."

Having successfully agreed a deal with banking giant Standard Chartered to sponsor their shirts, Liverpool are aiming to add more partners to their portfolio with a reported £250 million debt to repay.

"Liverpool is a club which attracts partners like few others, simply because of its history, and the way it acts culturally," Ayre continued.

"They are great things for any commercial brand to use around the world, to get their own message out there. I would say there will definitely be more partners in the future.

“In all honesty, it is easy to find a brand who will write you a big cheque in football,†he reveals, “but what is not as easy is finding somebody who genuinely fits together with you, and has similar aspirations in similar markets.

"We have found that [with Standard Chartered] and I am sure they will be an amazing sponsor for Liverpool Football Club - in fact, they already are.â€Â

Ayre, 45, is also hoping to build up the club's brand in the Far East after spending 15 years living in the region.

He added: “Having experience in Asia is definitely an advantage for a club like Liverpool.

“We have already had a hugely successful tour [of Thailand and Singapore in the summer of 2009] and there are lots of plans for the future for that part of the world. I know that particular area very well, and we are developing the Liverpool FC product all of the time."

How is a business in Thailand going to 'culturally fit' with Liverpool Football club?

Seems a lot of waffle to me. Give the rights to anyone who stumps up the most cash and be done with it.

Ha, so to get us thinking it will be built they now tell us it may be sponsored... something they told us in their first ever press conference.

Cliche-ridden managementspeak such as "culturally fit" is a waste of everybody's time, and we certainly need all the money we can properly bring in, but we do need to take some care over whom we do business with. On David Moores' own admission, the sum total of his enquiries before letting Hicks in on the deal to buy the club was, er, reliance on Gillett's word, and look what that's led to.
