It's an obvious low baller, but we really are missing someone to distribute the ball and get things going in the middle of the park - there's been no fluency at all in our passing. Nothing is being created. This was to be the year we moved forward. I'm glad we conceded a goal. Might give Rafa's tactics, and the players mentality the kick start they needed...

Babel off would be the obvious substitution, surely. But the players on the pitch can change this - they just need to start playing better.
 
I wouldn't mind if Masher or Babel was taken off either.

I'd like to see Gerrard dropped back so he can get into the game. He's just standing between the lines and nothing's happening for him.

Push Kuyt up and try and combine with Torres who's desperately isolated.

There's no positives to be taken from that first half. We have to completely start again for the second.
 
We're not even trying to play football.

Just thumping it out of defence every chance we get.

He won 2 or 3 tackles and that's it, our midfield is still non-existant.

Get Yossi on. Babel off. Tell Carra and Skrtel to stop hoofing the ball (there's a midfield for a reason).

If Karma's anything to go by, we'll win this game still. Last year we murdered them for 80minutes, and lost. This year, i'll just take the points and we can pick over the bones of the performance later.

How has Lucas looked shit? As opposed to the others he's kept possession, and spread the play well. IMO Johnson has been dross. Keeps trying too much and just failing

It's easy to jump to conclusions here, but this is a bit like other games where Lucas/Mascherano haven't appeared to do that much wrong, but the game ends up with Torres stranded, and us never really getting up the pitch. Riera is such a reliable outlet, and here he has been replaced with a unwilling, gutless loser.

So execrable is Babel's play that I can confidently proclaim there's not a chance he'll score in the second half...

I don't care about pre-season form really, yes I know it's just to get fit and it's meaningless. No one needs you to keep pointing it out.

We looked poor in pre-season and we look poor now hence a continuation. It's just how I chose to start my sentence and I didn't expect anyone to read any meaning into it.

Other than you of course - you can label it lazy and written by a hack.

At least I don't run away from forums because I get angry / upset with posters. Five years old, eh?

There is no fluency because as soon as we get into their half of the field Babel, Gerrard & Kuyt are unable to hold on to the ball or even pass it properly. I was hoping Riera would start left mid so we can at least retain possession as I said before I thought that would be key to this match and we are giving it away like MacDonald's freebies.
 
Have we ever started a season playing well under Rafa? I don't mean getting the results (as we have done that in the past and results are everything I must admit), but I mean actually playing well and looking sharp.

During the beginning of last season we looked a much better side after going behind and we showed tremendous spirit to get the results we needed. Lets see if we can see that same spirit again in the second half.
