OK- so we've got say £30 mill to spend, and perhaps, if we sell Dossena, nearer £40 mill. Do you buy a CM or trust to what we've got and splurge elsewhere? Or perhaps splurge in two areas. What say ye forumites?

I'd sign Defour from Standard as Xabis replacement. 12-15 mill

And sign Robben or Sneijder from Real. Either included in the Xabi deal, or an agreement about us getting either for a good price.

Defour is a good shout, depending on the price.

Personally I'd spend it on two. We've got a massive scouting network, surely for in the region of £40m we can find quality for the middle of the park AND outwide, without ending up with another Mark Gonzalez. Surely?

We need to buy another CM if Alonso goes - no getting around that that.

I don't know very much at all about Inler, Defour, D'Agostino or some of the other random names that have been bandied about, so I'll stick to what I do know.

Sneijder - I'd wait and see what goes on at Madrid. From what I'm reading, the Dutch contingent are in no hurry to leave, so maybe if we wait, we might be able to get a reasonable price as they get more desperate to sell. Wouldn't want us to pay any more than 15M.

Senna - There is no chance of this I'm guessing, but if he could be obtained for a small fee, he'd an excellent stop-gap.

Another thread on Xabi.

This is worse than a pandemic!

This isn't a thread on Alonso, it is a thread about spending money. Now spend it already!

Say we did get £30M (and I would be pissed if we didn't), then you have to assume that we have £10M left over from our budget as well. I would buy Aquilani (recent prices suggest £16-18M) and Silva (everything we have over if need be).

Johnson
Aquilani
Silva

That would be the best summers worth of business since the Dalglish years.

word for word.

Liverpool have made a big offer for the Torino midfielder according to tuttomercatoweb.com (Italian transfer news website - reasonably accurate for Italian news).

any news on arbeloa's sale? weren't real offering 3 million euros for a spanish flexible full back?

if we get rid of alonso, doseena, arbeloa and god please voronin, along with rafa's we have money for one new player before we have to sell, we have 50 million left. that will buy both a quality alonso replacement and silva.

If/hopefully when he goes, I'd use the money we have for Aquilani and Silva if we could get them.

There's plenty of CM's that we could go for though, it's the forward that's the problem.

Blerim Dzemaili

Since our goal is the league title, I'd prefer us to go for established CM in the country.
[/quote]Which country? THE country? Ooo-arrr!

My only concern with Aquilani is his injury record. Excellent player though.

61 league starts in FIVE seasons is fucking awful. No thanks from me.

Dzemaili started his career at Swiss side FC Zürich. There he was part of the 2005–06 and 2006–2007 Swiss Championship winning team.

Dzemaili signed a preliminary contract agreement with Bolton Wanderers on February 9, 2007, meaning that he would sign for the Premiership outfit once his contract ran out in the summer of 2007.[1]

Former Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was quoted as saying: "Dzemaili is a fantastic player, who has played for the best team in Switzerland for the past three years. For someone so young, he has a wealth of experience. At the tender age of 20, he is the skipper of FC Zurich and is expected to become a regular international for Switzerland in the years ahead. He has hardly missed a game for FC Zurich since he started playing for them at the age of 17. I am excited by the prospect of working with Blerim next season".

However things did not go as planned for the pair; Dzemaili sustained a long-term injury only months prior to his move. Dzemaili made his debut as a substitute in the club's FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United in what proved to be his only showing of the 2007-08 campaign.

Dzemaili joined Torino on a season-long loan deal, on 1 September 2008, making his debut with Torino on 24 September 2008, and became a staple fixture in their side for the season. Despite their relegation to Serie B, Torino confirmed they had signed him on a permanent basis after they agreed an undisclosed fee with Bolton.

Sounds awesome.

That is shite.

*strokes out AQUILANI*

Next!

I would spunk it on two players. Set aside 20 million each for a replacement and someone who is equally adept at leading the line and playing behind a striker so he could cover Torres and Gerrard if they get injured. I think 20m would cover Defour, Moutinho or Martinez. All able replacements. But who fits the striker/Am role?

Hulk?
Giuseppe Rossi?
