Sorry for the kid ...... just when he starts to get a few appearances. Ultimately he may not be good enough but it would be better to find that out on the pitch.

JAY SPEARING added to Roy Hodgson’s injury woes as the Reds boss admitted trying to replace Steven Gerrard is an impossible task and the captain’s injury has left him “angry, frustrated and disappointedâ€.

The young midfielder was in line to replace Gerrard against West Ham at Anfield this evening but suffered the blow of a suspected broken ankle in training yesterday.

Ehm...will Spearing ever make it to a first team regular?

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Jay-Spearing-set-to-pen-new-long-term-Liverpool-contract-article654861.html

Jay Spearing is set to be signed by Liverpool on a long-term contract as new Liverpool recruitment supremo Damien Comolli steps up his youth policy.

Comolli, 38, arrived at Anfield last month as director of football strategy following the club’s takeover by New England Sports Ventures.

He has been busy scouting for new players as well as tying down the future of the club’s brightest prospects.

Already since Comolli arrived, youngsters Daniel Pacheco and Martin Kelly have committed themselves to Liverpool until 2014.

Spanish forward Pacheco, 19, has signed a two-year contract extension and full-back Kelly, 20, has signed a three-year extension.

And now Mirrorsport understands Liverpool officials are close to getting midfielder Spearing, 22, to pen a new contract too.

Spearing, who has made 14 appearances for the club, still has 18 months to run on his deal at Anfield.

But Comolli wants the club’s brightest prospects nailed down to Liverpool.

And negotiations with Spearing have started about giving the starlet a new three-and-a-half-year deal.

Comolli gained a reputation during his spell as director of football at Tottenham from 2005-2008 for investing in youth.

He helped bring the likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Dimitar Berbatov to Tottenham.

The Frenchman was dismissed when the club struggled under Juande Ramos.

But many of his signings like Bale and Modric have since come good for the White Hart Lane outfit under Harry Redknapp, who has steered them into the Champions League.

He's English and decent enough for us to get a good price when we sell him. It's only good business to tie him down for a bit longer.

Yeah, it's clearly aimed at getting a higher price.

I think we have seen enough of Spearing now to realise that he isn't going to make it in the Premier League. He could still have a good career playing for a Championship club though.

Definitely better than John Welsh & Darren Potter who were both on the fringe of the first team in previous seasons but ultimately he's a top Championship player or at best a bottom-half of EPL player. He'll have a better career than Welsh or Potter though IMO.

But considering Kelly being younger and signing a shorter deal, the offer does seem a bit too 'gracious' even if its to increase chances of a higher fee should we sell him off.

Can't help but feel its a pity that Hammill didn't stay on longer. Who knows what might've happened.

Has anyone noticed how most discussions these days revolve around who is less shit?

Because arguing over who's better leads to several comparisons to Gerrard and how no-one at the club can cmpare to him.

And Lucas stays fit. As usual.

Merry Xmas!

Perhaps we could send him the same message we're sending diouf?

He'll still line up against blackpool

FFS one is a twat who actually cheered when we conceed a goal when he was STILL on Liverpools books while out on loan, who Spit at Celtic Fans while wearing OUR Shirt, and has spent every opportunity trying to get digs in against the club and anyone involved with it.

The Other is a current Liverpool player who tries his best, and has NEVER ever shown us any disrespect.

The only way Lucas will get injured is if Diouf spits into his mouth.
