Hodgson is instigating this by his ill-advised tendency to place everything he does in the context of the previous regime. We all know Rafa can't resist sniping back.

Rafa in being mental bellend shocker.

So what role is Kenny doing then ? Director of Football ?
He's not being mental at all, he's basically talking sense, but he is being a bell end, he should just move on, and shouldn't have risen to the bait. If Hodgson wants to try to deflect criticism onto a more successful, far more beloved manager, he doesn't really require a response.

Cant wait to see what Kenny has to say.

Well for the last two season none of them have entertained us with their football, so lets have a real good "mysterious quotes" fight so we have some value for our money 😉

I’m signed up to Onceys view as well. On the one hand we’ve got Rafa who likes to insult everyone and on the other we’ve got Roy who primarily likes to insult the fans.

Rafa is right to have his say, Roy is acting like a dog thats been cornered, going on the attack and snapping at everyone. Shame he can't instill the same amount of fight into the team.

Roys a mental old fool and rafa is a mental slightly young fool for responding.

Rafa doesn't need to repsond as we know Roys is a shite manager.

The king in a I love you more shocka, who will win kennys love, thats the question.

I always felt Rafa was a more classy communicator when he said little or nothing in public. The more he began to say, the less effective it tended to be. This is no exception and I reckon his interests would have been better served by his keeping schtumm.

Even so, I can't altogether blame him for saying something now, when Roy's been taking little digs at the previous regime for a while. Regardless of whether he's been right or not, he shouldn't have done it and it only adds to the picture of a tetchy old scrote floundering in a job that's too big for him.

i can't fathom how he could have been so stupid to go on the attack about dalglish and benitez. i just don't understand how he thought he'd get away with what for all the world looks like a blatant lie. hopefully people will start thinking a bit more carefully the next time they're going to trot out the 'nice bloke' cliché about hodgson, cos it really doesn't seem accurate at all.

He probably would be, if he werent so out of his depth here.

He needs to focus on his job for as long as he has left.

I don't think Roy instigated the attack on Rafa. He was asked something along the line of whether he felt any threat with Kenny Dalglish . That was what led him to talking abt their conversation in the summer, the (bigger) role he is playing now (compared to the past under Rafa) and the incident where Kenny called him regarding watching a match and insisting on being the driver.

Rafa's response, on the other hand, seemed to be self-initiated (I could be wrong). Looking at the video, he was constantly looking down on the table, seemingly referring to a piece of note (reminds me about the 'FACT' press conference regarding Man Utd). That was when he threw out 'facts' of 9 signings, 10m net spend, 300m club value, 13 internationals.

Granted, Roy could've just answered a simpler 'no' in response to the question but knowing how long winded he is... ...

That's no excuse though, is it? It's something he should have the nous to be aware of and compensate for. I'd add that the powers-that-be in the club should have got him some media coaching by now, and if necessary ordered him to undergo it.

Besides, he's said other things earlier on about what he was left with. Again, he probably does a point with some of it but he still shouldn't have said it in public, for a variety of reasons.

Roy instigated it. Probably not on purpose. It probably came by itself 5 minutes and 50 seconds into some other meaningless rambling about how Halmstad and Örebro were great clubs, how well he is respected around in the world of football, and something bullshit about how on earth a fan website dared to ask questions regarding his ability measured towards Frank "just have been sacke, yeah that is the man" Rijkaard.

eh? without any promptng, he said that KD's role would be different and that it wouldn't be how it was with benitez, not being allowed to step foot into melwood etc. according to everyone i've heard, that's an outright lie. if hodgson can't be held responsible for that then i must be going crazy.

Benitez said: "I will be clear. I don't want to talk about Liverpool but I will because they are asking me again. I feel that Mr Hodgson, he doesn't understand. Every single press conference is worse than the last one. He's talking about things he doesn't know. Some people cannot see a priest on a mountain of sugar. He doesn't understand. Maybe he has been in the job for not so long.

"We (the Benitez regime) gave the (Liverpool) fans the pride. Again. We fought for the fans, we fought for the club and we fought for our players. Maybe he cannot understand this. I brought back Kenny Dalglish to do a role in the club. Christian Purslow (the former managing director) gave him another role. So he doesn't know but I will explain to him.

"He (Hodgson) signed nine players. I left that squad with £10m net spending, I left that squad with a value of £300m value and 13 internationals. So instead of talking about flips and flops, he has to concentrate on the job, try to do his best and not talk about the level of his players. Let the new players come in and concentrate, try to do their best, because it will be the best for the clubs and the best for the fans."

Seems fair enough to me. He was asked so he responded and took the opportunity to clarify Kenny Daglish's role for Hodgeson.

What credible source is saying it's a lie?

.................and what credible source is saying it isn't?

rafa has a right to defend himself.

seriously,
"I don't know about his ambition, but you can understand that I can't ask him, 'do you want my job? I was disappointed - and I've told him this - that he applied for the job in the summer because I don't think that was ever really going to happen for him."

''Rijkaard has been sacked, he must be a great manager''

two roy digs that Kenny and Rijkaard didn't bother to respond to, and that is their right but rafa has the right to defend himself.

The more Roy opens his gob, the more he dispels the myth about the gentleman that he is supposed to be.

He should concentrate on coaching and getting us up the table. The less he says, the better!

While we await the next one

From the same pre-match conference he gave this absolute beaut:

"All teams have injuries," said Benitez. "We have a certain amount of muscle-related injuries but 40% of them were picked up on national team duty. Also, 85% of them are recurring from last year. "

Rafa Benitez, right 60% of the time, all the time.
Well given that the minimum amount (percentage) a player could represent (5%), it would mean he has a minimum of 20 players with muscular injuries.
