We need to me more solid defensively as we can't defend for shit. Gutted sturridge and coutinho can't play. I've always believed that the only chance we have of getting a result in any game is to get at least 2 goals. Anything less with our shit defence means we could quite easily fuck up.

I'd like to see Rodgers field as strong / in-form a team as we can. With the defeat to WBA, I'm afraid the contest for 4th (12-pt gap to Spurs) and 5th (8-pt gap to Arsenal) in the league is almost over unless something strange happens.

We need a good string of wins from us and good string of draws/defeats for rival teams to get into Europe via the league; this is too much to ask from a yoyo team like ours. The 2-legged cup format suits us better as we can afford a draw or a narrow loss in one game and still stay in the hunt. It's a shame we're missing Sturridge because his availability would've given us a much better chance.

I didn't realise Coutinho and Sturridge couldn't play. That's a huge blow. Also, I know Suarez needs a rest, but I think we need to be putting our big guns out for this one. After monday night's shambles, 4th place has taken a turn for the worst, and we should now be concentrating on winning this competition. Suarez can be rested for one of our league games.

Anyway, if Rodgers is a good manager he should be able to motivate them for this game. Zenit aren't *that* good a team. Even without Gerrard and Suarez we should have enough talent to win this if they play like we know they can.

Gerrard/Suarez/Downing/Hendo etc on the bench to come on if required. I rate Shelvey, but only when he is in the midfield 3, on Monday he was part of the front 3 which isn't his role. Borini clearly needs more time on the pitch from the start instead of coming on as a sub. I want to see Assaidi play, what was the point of signing him if he doesn't even come off the bench?!
