Well, if I'd have known last week that these guys didn't have a clue about what they were going to do following Dalglish's departure I'd have been going nuts to keep him. If we don't get one of the world's footballing superbrains and give them a decent budget I don't see why we fired him. But seeing as we did and that we now have David Dein in place, I'd get Wenker and tell him to pillage Africa for some more wunderkinden along with a war chest for RvP and some other kids he's no doubt got the lowdown on.

Maybe they are right and he is a blag manager but i think its harsh to write his career off based on 5 months when the 2 years prior to that were very spectacular. Maybe theyre right about Benfica and Sporing too, but he won the Waafa cup too.

Look - this is what I got last April when we were linked with him, I posted it earlier in the topic but you might have missed it. This Porto fan predicts he'll get sacked in his first season in the prem...

Maybe he should be writing for a paper. He is studying to be a vet in Lisbon and he seems pretty into all that, but I'll let him know.

He is being hyped up as the new Mourinho. The thing is though, it would have been impossible for any manager to NOT win the league with Porto this season. I can assure you even a monkey would have won the league this season with Porto.

His success has come from inheriting a top quality Porto side, that just needed a bit of tinkering to make it work.

I dont think he's the new Mourinho. I mean, last season it was Domingos Pacienca (Braga's manager) being talked up as some super-manager, and he's had a faily average league campaign this season.

He'd be sacked within the year - at most - at Liverpool IMO.

Let's see how he does in the CL next year.. He's probably the closest we've come to getting a "new Mourinho" though, but right now he is vastly overrated...
 
Here's another dude at the same time:

he has just inherited a beast of a porto team, had countless help from the referees in the beginning of the season -while at the same time giving bad decisions against Benfica- to built up a nice lead.

What they're saying is... imagine Celtic had been run by Mourinho and won the CL - a few years later it's still a beast, and an average manager would walk the league, the competition was all shit. The UEFA cup was great but in their opinion a bit lucky and no measure of his abilities. They go on to state that unlike Maureen he'll get found out in England - and he does.

But fuck them, they know nothing!

I did see that. And the post following it that stated he signed 8 players that summer which isnt a 'bit of tinkering'
Im not saying he WOULD be a success, or that his job at Chelsea was a success, im just saying that the opinion of a handful of fans shouldnt really hold any sway in our thoughts.
If you asked me about Roy I would have said dont touch him with a bargepole and he went to West Brok and had a really good season. If you asked Wes Brom fans about Di matteo they would say he will fuck up Chelsea and he won a cup double. We throw a bit of emotion and drama into rational thought and come up with all kindsa shit (thats why most of our bellend fans want Rafa back even though he ended up as a fucking disaster) and some of the shit may stick but some of it could be just that.

that's a good point, sometimes managers just 'fit' the situation and I think AVB may be a good 'fit' for us even though he was a disaster for chelsea.
