So who do we want/expect/hope?

More inside track from a Portugeezer:

AVB has several problems. First of all, his tactics are NOT that good. In the portuguese league there were many games that were walking to a draw or loss by Porto and out of nowhere they would get a penalty or the other team would get a red card or a freekick or something. That's not to say he is a bad manager, like the worse in the world.

No, he's not that bad. He's just average. At Académica he didn't do anything special and he benefited alot of the work of his predecessor, Jesualdo Ferreira, the team that he had set up and the players he had chosen.

Also, let's not forget, that team had Radamel Falcao, one of the best strikers in the world.

So, if he has all these problems how did he trounce the Portuguese League? Well, he got lucky. Lucky in the sense that Sporting was completely broken from the inside, Benfica thought they would win every single game simply by being there and Braga simply decided to not give a arse.

He's a mediocre manager, he has nowhere near the competence to join a truly superpower of football, at least not yet. I still think he can surprise me, but to be frank, after his display at CFC I can only assume I was right, at least for now.

You see and then I read something like that, which confirms what you don't want to suspect, and I lean towards Rafa again.

Why AVB though? It took him six months to figure out Chelsea didn't have the squad to play a high back line, by which point he'd fucked them up completely.

I'd rather have Martinez - and I don't want Martinez.

I think anyone is a gamble now. We need something pretty revolutionary to move forwards now. We need to transform as a club. It's risky though and risk makes people nervous.

It makes me very nervous, honestly I have no idea who i'd want, other than Klopp of course *sigh*

see, I take stuff like that with a pinch. 'oh he had no competition', 'it was all luck', 'falcao scored all the goals'.
AVB is obviously a very talented manager and someone is going to take a chance on him, you look at the chelsea debacle and I actually think that will have helped him rather than hinder him. you learn from your mistakes. cut his teeth at chelsea and chelsea paid his fuck off release clause. it's a gamble, sure, but even mourino would be a gamble,

It'll be someone we haven't even thought of yet.

Remember Dein (if he is advising FSG) plucked Wenger out of relative obscurity.

Yeah but thats like betting against a 4-1 shot with a 50-1 shot. Which one has the better chance of winning?

Why? its an awful piece of writing thats totally biased and suggests he is a passenger. Why not read all the pieces by experts before he left Porto suggesting he was the second coming. Theyre better written and contain a lot more fact and a lot less bombastic opinion.

As far as im concerned if Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Fernando Torres, John Terry, Ryan Bertrand and Didier Drogba wanted him out thats enough for me to think he could be ace. Thats the same bunch of wankers who wanted Scolari out too. Because they dont want to be managed. Look how much they love good old Bobby being in charge.
As far as im concerned he wasnt given a fucking chance but in the short time he was there he signed Cahill, Mata and Meireles who have all been good signings, AND left a team competing for fourth still in two cup competitions, even with a bunch of utter cunts trying to destabalise him.

I want sustainable success, I want us to rip up what we've done in the past 4 years and pretty much start from scratch.
when you look at the riches of city and chelsea we aren't going to outbid anyone with fees or wages so we have to create our own stars and do it at a far more rapid pace than we've managed in the past 10 years, but that isn't going to happen over night.
that is why I want AVB/de boer/klopp because even though they are young with little experience they can grow and the club grows.
so more of a gamble but it has a view to the long term. I love rafa to pieces, always have always will be we need a clean slate now and a clear vision that we stick to even if it's rough at first.

The thing is Rafa is not the man to bring youth through. He would sooner buy. So this arsenal like approach you speak of - it's not made for him really alas

Only because it's written by a fan - and, often, you get more of a truthful perception from a fan than so-called experts. As I said, my heads up my arse with all this anyway. We'll get who we get regardless of who each of us actually want. I just want it sorted now so we know where to pitch our tents. I want a good spot not too near the bogs.

Is this from a portofan?

In all fairness, Rafa totally overhauled our youth system because there was no youth to bring through so I'm not sure that's quite correct.

as fans we often don't see the woods for the trees, we're far too close to the subject matter to form and unbiased, objective opinion.

Everyone except Fergie is a gamble. Hes the only manager in the world who has consistently shown he can perform year in year out to a trophy winning standard.
Whoever we bring in i think its important we temper our expectations. In particular the owners. Its either a long term plan or they need to throw hundreds of millions at it. If its a long term build the Boas is a good fit. But people need to be chilled when we arent top 4 next year.
Let the man work.

You speak my thoughts

Strange that after AVB left Porto won 23% fewer games than when he was their manager. And Falcao "only" scored 16 goals in the league.

I love the fact that some think he achieved his success as a fluke and got lucky.

Read the other one written by a fan prior to him leaving porto saying the same thing. Ish

It's also written by a Portuguese, who almost certainly knows a sod of a lot more about what he's talking about than most of the hacks who've ventured a "bombastic opinion" from outside the country altogether.

Fans know fuck all. And if hes a Portugeuse, hes either Porto (and Jilted) or not Porto (and bitter).
Every single fucking expert in the world of football was all over Boas before he left porto. Chelsea paid 14m to sign a manager because they believed so much in him.
Writing him off after 6 months at Chelsea is ridiculous given they have sacked Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Philipe Scolari and are in all probability going to sack A manager who has just won the champs with boas team.
I'll stick with the opinion based upon what he has done rather than some poorly written shite from a jilted fan.

why do you guys rate lambert so highly? honest question as I've seen very little of norwich.

He always expects and plays to win, and when he was a player he went abroad (to Borussia Dortmund) and did well. If we *are* going to take chance on youth rather than experience, Lambert would be my preference too.

With all this talk of Martinez, Rodgers etc I'm mystified as to why Lambert isn't getting much of a mention.

He took a Norwich side on it's knees (and in a financial mess) from 22nd in League one to two back-to-back promotions (no playoffs) and an excellent first season in the premiership - with a bunch of lower league (and non-league) players. And all of that with nigh on zero spend.

He's a winner and must be under consideration.
