Very hot here this week, he passed out, resuscitated in the clubhouse, then passed out again and couldn't be brought back.

Lets not worry about them at all, manys the time ive looked at a United squad and thought it was nothing special and then it goes and romps the league. ANY team would miss Ronaldo and Tevez and yes they obviously have less quality than before due to the sale of those two however they have experience and a winning mentality and a plenty of quality all over. I supect they will buy as well just to be sure.

Fuck em.

We have our own chances to worry about. And I think our superstars will get more goals than theirs and I really think we have a great chance of finishing above them but only if we concentrate and forget about them.

Yes you are right, if WE concentrate it will help immensely.

😉

I'd never write United off because they're certainly capable of winning it this year, but I think they'll finish third or possibly forth.

Unless Rooney has a clinical goalscoring season and Berbatov finds his form, I just can't see where the goals are going to come from.

You can't expect them to lose Ronaldo and Tevez and not have their title credentials questioned.

Ferdinand out for a month..... lovely jubbly...

Missing games against Wigan, Spurs, Arsenal and City.

However, I'm not going to take joy in injuries to rival players as if it happens to certain ones of ours, we are totally screwed.

Anyone that thinks the reigning champions are out of it after one dodgy performance, two games into a new season - Is off their rocker.

The waiter going is a massive blow to them, and may even cost them the league, but whoever finishes above them will win it I'd have thought.

Here is what wenger has to say about this. Funny he should say this. When Perma injured Robin Van Persie gets injured again, he will be missing Adebayor. Their strinking and midfield options are not bullet proof. The only thing going for him is that he is the one manager who seems to cope very well with kids in his first team.

Wenger wants to see how rivals cope

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to see how Manchester United and Liverpool cope with losing key players, and sees Chelsea as "a main threat".

The Red Devils sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for £80million and have since brought in Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen to help compensate for the Portuguese's departure.

Liverpool, meanwhile, parted company with Xabi Alonso, also to Real, for around £25million and have signed Alberto Aquilani to help fill the void left by the Spanish midfielder.

Wenger has also sold personnel, having seen Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor move to Manchester City, but admits he is intrigued to discover how the Gunners' rivals cope this campaign.

"The question this season is who will cope the best with what has happened during this transfer market. Let's make sure it is us," he told the club's official magazine.

"The big task for United is replacing the goals that Cristiano Ronaldo scored over the last few seasons.

"You can say whatever you like about Ronaldo, but you have to admit he had two fantastic qualities.

"Firstly, he was never injured. Secondly, he put the ball in the back of the net.

"I'm surprised that they didn't reinvest more of the money they got for Ronaldo, but they may do that in January.

"Manchester United, of course, will continue to be a major force in the championship, but you can see that where we drew four times 0-0, they won them 1-0, sometimes because Ronaldo made the difference.

"Michael Owen is worth a gamble I think, because he can be an impact player. Also you would hope that he can put his injury problems behind him at some stage.

"I don't believe he can ever be back to his complete best, but even if he gets to 95 per cent of what he was before, he will be a fantastic player."

Of Liverpool, Wenger said: "Alberto Aquilani will be a good player [for Liverpool], but they have lost a great player in Alonso.

"He was the brain of the game for Liverpool last season. I don't expect them to struggle this season, but people might have a little question mark about how they replace Alonso."

Wenger also believes that Chelsea, now under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, will be a force this term, with the Blues having won both of their opening games of the season.

"I still think that Chelsea will be a main threat for the championship, but their squad is a year older which might have an impact when they have to repeat the games in short succession," he said

The only thing going for him is that he is the one manager who seems to cope very well with kids in his first team.

Yeah, Wenger and the kids have been shitting out trophies.

anyone noticing the trend where people called liverpool a two man team but in the next breath saying they (liverpool) will miss alonso. so we were a three man team then?

So erm... I presume the authors and contributors to this and the 654139286508 "United are shite and Owen's shitterer!" threads from the past week are just hoping that they'll fall down the forum yes?

Well you sat on the fence in those threads yet you're sounding so righteous now ? Based on United's performance yesterday where they were matched by Wigan for 60 mins before Wigan seemed to give up after the United counter-punch for 2-0, you have now decided something have you ?

Well let's hear it then.

"sat on the fence"?

I predicted they'd win the league in those threads.

Of course they'll be there or thereabouts but as long as they don't sign anyone we should be able to finish above them. I guess a few good performances now will help as Fergie may think he's got enough.

Don't worry I found it without your cantankerous assistance (Ctrl F not working well for me it seems) - yep you said it "United will win the league".

This is one worth remembering.

No-one sat on the fence.

Some Clueless knobheads said Man U were shite.

Like they did in 1996.

Like they probably will at the start at next season.

Clueless knobheads never learn.

This thread was a bad idea,Froggy; and many here did suggest that to you.
[/quote]

The idea is not a bad one as United's performances so far have proved (30 good mins aside). A number of newspapers are running articles on the same theme now.

However it seems almost purely on the basis of history and superstition many on SCM are unwilling to debate it - just state United are wonderful without bothering to theorise as to why they will win / finish 2nd. It is weird because it seems United's own forums are far more willing to debate this with more than a few saying they won't finish in the Top 3 and some of them believing they won't finish in the Top 4 !!

No wonder there are so few posts / threads on SCM recently. It's like a graveyard half the time. No-one seems willing to actually debate their standpoint - they just issue simple declarations as if it's fact and decry anyone else holding a different opinion. I am not the only one on SCM who believes United won't finish in the Top 2. Look through the United threads - there are plenty of others - so why again is it a bad idea exactly ?

* declaimer - this is assuming United don't go out and spend big money on Ribery, Silva etc. before 1st September*

It's not people not wanting to debate & theorise their standpoints. It's simple fact.

Utd are missing two key players, yes. However we're missing one in Alonso, & havent strengthened in the key areas that let us down last season, Arsenal havent added the strength in midfield everyone can see they needed, Man City are completely unproven, & Chelsea, despite not losing any key players, are operating a new system under a new manager.

As such writing off Utd is just fucking stupid, add in the fact that time & again Fergie has sold key players, been written off & turned a team of above average players with the odd star into a side that has an ethic that just refuses to let them get beaten.

It's happened time & again throughout Ferguson's tenure at Utd, & to dismiss their chances, & his ability to turn that side into a genuine title threat is naive at best.

We would have a better idea couple of months into the season.

1. The transfer window would have closed.
2. The sample space on which your assessment will be drawn would be a more accurate representation of the actual league teams and contenders that they would face over the course of the season.

It is one thing for united fans to be paranoid about their chances before a ball is kicked (that is basic human fear/siege mentality), it is entirely another for us to drum up and kick them without even a valid assessment of their ability to win the league......you are doing the later, and i'm not sure why you act so surprised when people are apprehensive about debating your topic at this point.

Perhaps you could close this for now and re-open it in a couple of months, and if United are in a bad position, then we can all join you in beating the dead snake. For now, i still fear being bitten by the snake...my apologies.
