So now we have Borini and Sturridge back...

....and we know who's upto the task at the minute, and who's not. What's the best side we can put out?

----------------Reina--------------
Johnson-Carra-Skrtel-Agger
---------------Hendo-------------
---------Gerrard----------------
--------------Suarez------------
-Sterling--Sturridge--Borini--

??

I wouldnt have Sterling in there.
Lucas instead of Sterling and Shelvey instead of Henderson.

I quite like Borini but I think at present it's for him to force his way into the team from the bench.

I'd probably keep Downing in there. And Widsom on the LB position for now.

Lucas, Sterling and Allen all looks like they'd benefit from a stint on the bench.

Sterling has been knackered for a while now, along with Allen, and Lucas needs to work on his fitness so Id go

----------------Reina--------------
Wisdom-Skrtel-Agger-Johnson
------Gerrard-------Henderson--
--------------Shelvey-----
-Borini-----Sturridge----Suarez

That midfield would get shafted all day long.

Drop Sterling and play all 3 of them. Sterling 1. needs a break and 2. Doesn't have any end product in his game at the moment.

That front four could be very tiring to play against; there's an awful lot of energy and movement in them. Henderson too would inject that bit more pace to the game if his last few appearances are anything to go by.

We've often looked a bit lacklustre and slow to get going - I'd like to see this team just to see if the personnel can improve that.

--------------Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
--------------Allen
--------Gerrard Shelvey
-Sterling Sturridge Suarez

Downing LB till Enrique is fit.

That team would tear Norwich a new one and set us up nicely for Arse and Citeh.

Thank You.

I'd like to see Sterling used a bit more sparingly, so lets see how Borini, Sturridge and Suarez work out together.

I wouldn't mind seeing a midfield of Allen, Henderson and Shelvey a few times too

OP: That looks like a 4-2-4 formation and something out of the Keegan (Newcastle) era.

Would be exciting times if that team was ever put out though.

For Norwich at home, I'd play this team:

-------------------- Reina
Wisdom --- Skrtel -- Agger --- Johnson
----------- Henderson -- Gerrard
-------------------- Suso
Suarez --------- Sturridge -------- Borini

That does look a bit sexy but I'd defo switch Downing for Wisdom and get Johnson on the right

For which game? At which ground? Against what side? In which competition? Who's injured? Suspended? In-form?

If I leave this site with one abiding memory of my time here it'll be Hayden Mullins that "what's our best 11" is the most utterly fucking pointless thing ever discussed.

Keni's spot on. Get Suso playing in behind a front three of Suarez, Sturridge and Borini = a beautiful thing.

It's a lighthearted stab at what our form/best current available team is. Why so serious? It's not like I don't know that it'll change from week to week, opposition to opposition, it was just a stab at temporarily rectifying our current woes. ie, Wisdom struggling, Allen in dire form, Lucas well short of his best, etc.

"Utterly fucking pointless"? Yes, discussing our current best isn't topical and subjective, nor does it raise debate, it's just about the most fundamental basic talking point about your favourite side - Who should be playing at the moment.

Maybe I should just litter the forum with pointless "I told you so's" and boring fucking jibes at people like DB. That's real important, gritty discussion material.

I'm not sure about Suarez in the AM position - not sure that really suits his game.

I do like the idea if giving Suarez, Borini & Sturridge time together to see if they can work - with Sterling getting a breather and being used as an impact sub.

The defensive 4 generally picks itself based on who's fit - but Downing should be kept far away from LB.

It's the midfield 3 that's all over the place with Allen & Lucas out of form, Shelvey inconsistent and Suso not ready to take on a central role.

I'm still not convinced with Henderson - I don't really know what he brings besides the ability to run around a lot. It's not that he's particularly bad but nothing stands out - his passing, shooting & tackling just seem ordinary so he looks no more like a DM than he does an AM.

I still think Gerrard is playing too deep, but probably because no one else has nailed one if huge other 3 positions.

to be honest , i still haven't fully worked out how we play our 3 in midfield . Do we play two deep with one a more traditional mid ? Or one centrally with the other two either side .

We don't look to play an attacking one , like say gerrard did under rafa with torres ahead of him .

Rodgers has eluded to 'flipping the triangle' in games, so I don't know, I think he wants a triangle that's versatile enough to change it around in an instant in this way, where the three suit eachother well with their similarity. That's why I suspect our best midfield in that sense is Lucas, Hendo and Allen. Because they're all fucking gash.

Yeah, it was a bit grumpy of me. I was being light-hearted in my response, just a bugbear of mine I guess.

the answer to the question is pretty simple - we still fuck up our chances. I am starting to believe that we are a cursed team, in a cursed league, cursed becuase:-

Both Chelsea and Man City spends Millions and are still incapable of keeping pace with Man United.
Cursed because no matter what striker we get - when it matters we can't still put away the easy chances to win.

So no Ryan - I don't think it will make any difference to us this season - I see no difference between us coming 5th or 17th in the league, and financially its probably true - it don't matter jack shit if you can't get at the very minimum 4th position to get a CL place, and that also carries the condition that if an English makes it to the CL final - they have got to lose that game, or win that game if they are 1, 2, or 3.

How can anyone get excited if the new players will not make it count for our team ? - its like an IT project where you deliver a system thats not needed on delivery date because you did not build the required features so that it will make an acutal difference.
