This makes interesting reading - The view from Sunderland Fans. Most seem gutted and genuinely rate the lad.

EDIT: On a completely unrelated note - But I bring up as it's mentioned a few times in that Sunderland forum. Calling LFC fans 'bin dippers' has to be the shittest insult ever. Bin Dippers??? Fuck me that is lame.....

EDIT 2 : Thank fuck I don't support Sunderland! What a bunch of sad deluded twats they are.

Reina just had a shit season. But I'd put more faith in him improving than in Mignolet coming anywhere close to Reina's best. No way on earth would I pay 10 million for him, that's just crazy.

Reina's best was between 7 and 3 years ago.

He's not going to get back to that even we bring back the legendary goal keeping coach , Rafa, Xabi or the Beatles.

Keeping Reina because Mignolet probably won't be as good as Reina was five years ago is a strange one

bin dippers is pretty common for liverpool fans on other sites to be honest, i dont think we're liked very much, i post a chelsea forum sometimes but hardly go on anymore cause i keep calling them cunts

I reckon Mignolet's short pass percentage will go up a significant amount in our system. Pepe's is only so high because we play it on the ground so much from the back, not because he's goalkeeper-Xavi.

His distribution will be missed, but that's something I can live with for a bit more well rounded play and consistency.

"Bin-dippers" is a bit rich coming from Mackems. They probably use their bins to keep their ferrets in and eat the rubbish instead.

That's a bloody understatement. We are despised from the little forum hopping I do. Not that it bothers me - I suppose it's a kind of back handed compliment.

Genuine question, as I hardly ever look at other forums - aren't members of fan forums likely to despise any other teams' fans? Are we targeted for that any more than anyone else?

But who is better now?

I don't look either but, as you say, I'd imagine they all have similar hates.

Maybe if Reina reports back to preseason as a fat fuck again then I'd fear the worst. However, I'd go look for a russian keeper with missing teeth, several piercings and tattoos. Mignolet reminds me of Joe Allen. Look into his eyes you'll see it too.

He's already gone through the now obligatory face smashed in/silly rubber face mask phase, so he should be fine.

If he was in any way cool, he'd have walked onto the pitch to 'It's time. It's time. It's Vaider time.'

Tony Barrett's article in The Times tomorrow says the Mignolet deal should be wrapped up by the end of the week. No fee agreed as yet though.

Well I haven't seen enough of Mignolet to be able to really say.

I know which one I'd want for the next five years though

I think everyone knows that Reina isn't going to last five years.

The question is - is now the right time to sell?

There doesn't seem to be an obvious destination for Pepe this summer (unless I've missed something) and would we really get any less for him next year?

Mignolet on the other hand - according to the Sunderland fans - has apparently stated that he's not going to renew his contract so his value is unlikely to increase.

Reina is definitely on a downhill slide and it's not gonna stop. Would definitely sell. Plus any guy who starts the season so overweight has obviously lost his hunger and is in the comfort zone. That was just disgraceful and I lost respect for him since then.

Well it's hardly an irreversible downhill slide as he lost weight and picked up his game in the latter part of the season. I don't see why the reasonable argument about moving him on has to be taken to the extreme of some kind of dramatic and inexorable decline.

why next 5 yrs? Reina is better and next season he could be the difference between champs league footie or more. we need to pick the best.

How is Reina better? Mignolet has better stats across the board.

And don't quote clean sheets, that number correlates directly to the quality of the back line, and while ours has been beleaguered, it is still vastly better than Sunderland's.

downing had great stats the season we bought him.

So we should buy players with terrible stats?

no, we should buy players who are an improvement. mignolet is not an improvement, in fact he struggles to be on the same level. you would have to be a terrible keeper to not look good in a struggling side who are constantly bombarded.

Mignolet has caused less errors over the last 2 years, and has stopped a higher proportion of shots inside the box

Considering he faces more shots and Crosses, these stats seem relevant to the discussion

How exactly isn't he an improvement? Reina had conceded significantly more goals due to his own errors than Mignolet. In less opportunities to screw up too, mind you.

As I said earlier, Mignolet isn't the sexiest name out there, but he is certainly talented enough.

granted he is talented, but we are forking out 10m for: (a) an area which is not a priority; (b) for a player who stuggles to be on the same level

People Fap over courtois, yet this guy is keeping him out the national side

He's not a bad keeper at all. Better than Reina at his peak? No way. Better than Reina now? Certainly possible

How does Mignolet struggle to be on the same level? His performance has been superior.
If anything, Mignolet is better as he's played consistently at international level for a team with a few good keepers
