Unfortunately I doubt it Dahuge, during the US Masters coverage the commentator read out a message from Seve in which he thanked all his fans for all their messages - I can't remember exactly how he ended the message - but it didn't seem very positive and there was no "I hope to see you all soon" type of ending.

Ahhhh, very depressing.

First professional golfer I ever met when I was 9 at the Irish Open in Mount Julliet, still have his autograph at home somewhere. Probably the main golfer to influence me when I was younger....well, him and my old man!! A true legend and a gent!

Top Spanish golfers Jose Maria Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez broke down in tears after learning that Seve Ballesteros is close to death.

Ballesteros’s family issued a statement yesterday indicating there had been a ‘severe deterioration’ in the neurological state of the five-time Major winner, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour three years ago.

Olazabal visited Ballesteros at his home in Pedrena on the Saturday after last month’s US Masters and had lunch with him and his family.

Double Masters winner Olazabal said he learnt on Thursday night that there had been a downturn in Ballesteros’s condition.

However, this latest setback to his life-long friend left Olazabal slumped over and in tears in the El Prat scorer’s hut after signing for a 72 on day two of the Spanish Open in Barcelona.

Olazabal is contesting the Spanish Open for the first time in seven years and this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the date Ballesteros won the first of his three Spanish Open titles.

Jimenez, who played alongside Olazabal for the opening two rounds, was observed putting a comforting arm around his shoulder.

Jimenez had also signed for a 72 and emerged agreeing to speak with the waiting media but was soon also overcome with emotion that he broke off his interview after less than 15 seconds and without saying anything.

Olazabal, who first teamed up with Ballesteros in the 1987 Ryder Cup, soon emerged from the scorer’s hut and, while accepting an invitation to speak, he too was soon heading for the clubhouse.

“I don’t want to make any statement at all or talk about it, as it’s pretty tough,†said Olazabal.

“I went to see him a couple of weeks ago and in the week after the Masters. But I knew last night he had got worse.â€

Colin Montgomerie was in the group immediately behind Olazabal and Jimenez but had not been aware of this latest deterioration in Ballesteros’s health.

However, in seeing Ballesteros speak via a video link to Royal Trophy team members last January, Montgomerie now fears the worst for the former six-time European No1.

“I heard he wasn’t well about a month ago but it’s difficult to talk about Seve when he is still with us,†said Montgomerie.

“Talk to me if the worst comes to the worst, but all we can do now is to wish him every success. But it’s just difficult, especially when he has undergone so many operations.

“Seve spoke to us via a video link-up at the Royal Trophy earlier this year. That was the last time I saw him ‘live’, if you like, but the look in his eyes wasn’t good. You could tell then that he wasn’t himself.â€

At the Former Champions Dinner at Augusta, Phil Mickelson hosted a Spanish themed meal in honour of Ballesteros.

“I heard the Champions Dinner was very emotional with both Phil and Jose Maria speaking,†said Montgomerie.

“Also, the way Jose Maria spoke at the Ryder Cup, he probably realised that it would be the last one Seve would be around for.

“He was very emotional that we had won and because of the way we won and he said Seve would have been absolutely delighted.

“I tried to get Jose Maria to attend the closing ceremony but he wouldn’t come.

“I managed to get him a jacket and a shirt but I stood up in the locker room and said , ‘If Jose Maria is not coming, then we’re not going’. So we all just sat down.

“I just hope now that you don’t have to write tributes.â€GOLF: SPANISH LEGEND back on DaNger list

Whenever we read about sports celebrities we seem to place emphasis either on their sporting achievements, or their indiscretions..but we sometimes forget that truly great sportsmen are often great not because of what they won, but because of who they were.

Seve is my father's favourite golfer, and he often talked about what a gentlemen he was.

I hope he finds a better place, because this place is the worse off for his passing.

R.I.P. Seve.

A true legend and one who will be remembered far more fondly than most of the current icons.

Kenny Dalglish has today spoken of his sadness following the death of golf legend Seve Ballesteros.

The 54-year-old won five major titles during a glittering career - but passed away on Saturday after a brave battle against cancer.

On hearing the news Dalglish said: "Seve had everything you wanted in a sporting champion: he was talented, charismatic, entertaining and, above all, fearless.

"What impressed me was that he never ever shirked a shot. If something was there, he would try it. He wasn't afraid to be creative or inventive.

"And, of course, he had the ability to pull it off. He must have had unbelievable coordination for some of the shots he did.

"I'm a keen golfer and Seve was the best recruitment agent the sport ever had. He introduced so many to golf because of his flamboyance.

"He wouldn't win every week but he was a multiple major champion and, win or lose, you couldn't take your eyes off him.

"His most enduring legacy will probably be the passion and commitment he gave to the Ryder Cup.

"To hear of Seve's death at 54 is very sad, he deserved a better scorecard than that. But the contribution he made to sport, let alone golf, is immeasurable."
