Selling Torres......

Obviously not for the paltry 50m sum being bandied about. But for 80-100m, that's an awful lot of cash that we could invest in strengthening all areas of our team.

David Villa went for 33m quid to Barca, so there is hope that quality can be bought for more 'reasonable' prices this year.

It would hurt immensely to see our greatest striker since Rushie sold, but as long as that 80m was given to the manager for new signings, I think it would be our best move in the long run.

Aside from the fact that it would send a catastrophic message to fans, rivals, potential investors (and managers), I think it dangerous to just make these decisions purely on a financial basis.

This was Rafa's worst error IMO, to sell players at a profit (or recoup his losses) or for whatever reasons and replace them with players he thought could just step in easily.

Yes they actually would pay more money if we have Torres and Gerrard in our squad. Pretty much the same way they pay Real Madrid bgger chuncks now when they have Noke Boy Ronaldo in their squad. Our advantage is that Adidas pay us a lot more to dress u our players in Adidas when Torres is among those players than they would if not Torres was among those players. SOme players have top top commercial value world wide. One of them is Torres. He is worth quite a lot of money for us that way, and we cant replace it. Hence a sales value of Torres would need to reflect that.

The fact that Ronaldo is the Nike glory boy affected his transfer fee. Real knew that they could recoup spome of that by pressing Adidas to increas their kit deal when they had Ronaldo in the squad. The same way that they wouldnt bother to cough up more money for Alonso, even though he was seen as a very vital part of their plan to win the CL. His commercial value was not strong enough to pay more for him.

Really? I thought it was more of an obligation for the players to the club to advertise the kit not to the manufacturer. So why should Adidas pay more if incidentally some players have contracts with Nike? Does Nike have to pay more to Barca because Adidas boy Messi plays for them? Why are you disputing that lots of players either left or were pushed; we've practically been a conveyor belt for players coming and going.In any event, my point was that payers arent jigsaw pieces to be replaced at will.
