Scudamore on Suarez

Yeh but it's not quiiiite the same as Luis is it though? He's bitten someone three times now on a pitch. Been publicly condemned and punished for being a racist, also while playing for us. And yep, the last bite (says it all) was on international duty, but most people still viewed him as a Liverpool player. He was often viewed as a Liverpool player who was a racist and someone with a habit of biting people. Not quite the same as those above.
Also bare in mind just how much of a global brand we are now. And just how much money is involved. Image is crucial. Football is a business.
Image is much less important in business than success.

His further comments on whether it is significant that the big 2 in Spain can cherry pick all the greatest players fall flat to me. We should insist that we are able to sell our foriegn TV rights individually as at the moment all EPL teams are at a competitive disadvantage.

Utter bollocks.

Quite, on the back of a season where we'd fought to support him and educate him, he went away with his International club and went of the rails again. We've since said enough is enough and sold him, so you know, I'm not sure how it reflects badly on us. If it reflects badly on anyone, it reflects badly on Suarez. The mad, bitey selfish twat.

And, being Happy that one of the top 3 players in the world has left the league is just stupid.
Biting or no biting.

Didn't say it wasn't. But anyone who thinks image doesn't play a massive part in bringing in the bucks is naive.
Anybody who thinks changes in our image play such a huge role in our income is even more naive.

How many Liverpool fans who bought a kit in 2013/14 or went to a match would then not purchase a kit or visit Anfield this season because Suarez bit Chiellini and we stood pat?

For every fan who backs away from the club because of the controversy, there'd be a dozen new ones reeled in by the brilliant play of Suarez staying, and our resurgence.

Exactly why Barca bought him without a second's hesitation.

I think you've misunderstood me mate. I haven't said that Luis should have been sold. I'm not advocating selling him because of his antics, just agreeing that how he acts reflects badly on the club. But that's not the same as saying our image is more important than keeping a player of his calibre. I haven't said that.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the effect of image on finances. I go by the opinions of so called experts on footy finance that were all giving their opinions at the time of the bite/bites. Without any real facts with regards to figures etc , it's impossible. Or you can maybe compare this to global brands in general. I think you would he hard put to find anyone who would agree that brand and reputation are not key. So why not sport? It's a business and a huge one at that so why would it not be affected the same way? Especially as it's all do publicly played out. Everything caught on TV and scrutinised over again across all forms of media...

So you're saying that if he marquee employee of a business bites somebody on a public stage, then it reflects badly on the business? No shit.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make here. Image/Brand is important to a point, but it has to be hilariously heinous to actually cost a business serious profit. There's a reason fast food joints, Chelsea, and cable companies are still so profitable, image be damned.

Mate, read the ops first post. It's all in there. The original statement was that the incident would not reflect badly on us. It's simply that point I disagree with dude. It's not about quantifying it etc. the link above quoting Ayre says it all.

Liverpool as a club, got fucking slaughtered when they wore those T shirts supporting him.

Is that not a case of his actions affecting our image?

Its as simple as this, I go out on the piss, twat someone, and get a criminal conviction. It would look bad on the company I worked for. It doesn't matter if its "out of work hours" You are always representing the company you work for.

Can't blame Suarez for those T shirts, yeah the Evra incident led to those T shirts but it's not as though Suarez turned up with them before the match asking everyone to wear them, the bright spark(s) that thought of those T shirts and persuaded the squad to wear them is to blame.

Fuck me they were a massive error of judgement, they made the situation so much worse, can't believe there were not a few wise heads around willing to speak up to let the squad know that it wasn't a good idea.

Isnt Scudamore the idiot who made the statement that the PL brand was suffering due to the Mancs performing poorly and a strong Mancs were beneficial for the PL?

He may have been right in that. If a club wins the PL so many times then in this day and age they are going to get the worldwide recognition that we did not get on the same level when we were winning it nearly every season. Right now - I guess in the eyes of the PL - it is hard to promote your league when you get little known Man City or Chelsea winning or being the teams in the top 4 and no United in that group. Look at Spain and some of the other leagues - in Europe the clubs that win the league most tend to be the most famous and are usually the most promoted around the world for that countries league.

I agree that what he said might be true. But as a chief executive of the PL he shouldnt be making such statements whether it is true or not.

'There’s lots of fans around the world who wish Manchester United were winning it again,’ he added. ‘But you have to balance that off against putting on a competition.’

I feel truly sorry for you.

That was an action the club took, so of course it reflected on the club. Liverpool FC didn't bite Giorgio Chiellini. In fact, they were thousands of miles away at the time...

But, you get my point.

Only if you're acting in the course of your employment though. So he was defo Uruguay's problem for the Chiellini one

I don't even think it was Uruguay's problem (well, their problem in the sense he was banned, of course).

If a bloke bites three different people when employed by three different companies, the problem is clearly with the bloke. I don't see how this reflects on anyone but Suarez himself. Crazy little biting genius.

It just fuckjng grates me when people like Scudamore use terminology like "damaging the brand" whilst conveniently forgetting that he did the same himself with discriminatory remarks about women.

There's nowt better than a hypocrite...

Woman are cunts though.

If they didn't have a minge, they wouldn't have a friend in the world.

"Of course, any types of incident of that nature are damaging to a brand, but Liverpool Football Club is way, way bigger and always will be way bigger than any one player or one individual."

Ian Ayre

I think that sums it up nicely. Of course it reflects badly upon us (the World Cup bite) but it's not the end of the world.

@Spionkop69 has hit the nail of the head, how Scudamore can have a go at someone for "damaging the brand" considering his antics is beyond rich. The corrupt backwards idiots at the top of the ones who are "damaging the brand" of football, not the world class talents, that applies across all levels of football, Premier League, FA, UEFA, FIFA. Just imagine how much better football would be if it was governed by these corrupt, self interested buffoons.
