What would be our all time best scouse (no ooters) 11?
They have to have played for us obv.

Dunno about Keeper. Paul Harrison just cos it'd be a nice story.
Lawler
Byrne
Thompson
Carragher
Smith
Gerrard
Callaghan
McDermott
Fowler
Aldridge

Fairclough on the bench obv.

Smith or Thommo in midfield? edit: actually did either of them ever play there?

Tommy Smith played in the old-fashioned right-half position. I suppose nowadays he would be described as a defensive midfielder, although he frequently pushed forward; his distribution was excellent and he scored some great goals.

Tommy was a very classy player and I think it is a pity that he is now remembered mainly for being a hard tackler.

I don't remember Phil Thompson ever playing a midfield role. He did a job in defence but I always thought he was a pretty limited player. He would have struggled now that the back-pass to the keeper is illegal. ;D

Ablet Aldridge Boersma Cally Carra Case Darby Fairclough Fowler Gayle Gerrard Johnson (David) Lawler Lee Marsh McAteer McDermot mcMahon Smith Spearing Thompson (David) Thompson (Phil)Warner Warnock Wright.

All Scousers born circa 1950 or later, and all played more than a couple of games for us 🙂

Oops all except Warner that is who never played for us except at reserve level, but was a pro at Millwal and is a scouser Goalie.

Pinocchio definitely started out as a midfielder, Portly. As for his defending, no less a luminary than Billy Bremner described him once as a "walking roll of barbed wire". For sure he was no world-beater, but he held his end up in a pretty good side.

Agree about Smithy, a far better footballer than he's sometimes been given credit for.

Don't be Birkenheadist.

He's a Scouser
No he's not. He's from Birkenhead.

So's Spearing, I said don't be Birkenheadist.

Thats akin to Rasism!

Just cause they can only see one clock!

Anyway Kirkby isn't strictly Scouse either, but you tell a Kirkby nutter there wooly and see if you got teeth in the morning!

Sorry to be ignorant, but would someone from wallasey be defined as scouse? A pub discussion...

Wheres the Scouse border start and end then?

Well to be truthful, I used to think like that, but on one long voyage, a shipmate who was from the one eyed city, wore me down, with statements like, 'How can I not be a scouser when I can see the Liverbird sitting on its perch from my bedroom window, and hear the chimes of the bleedin clock on a quite day!'

If we was Greater Liverpool instead of Merseyside, then it'd all be solved at long last. After all when Anfield was built, the stadium wasn't in Liverpool then either 🙂

If we was Greater Liverpool instead of Merseyside, would all the woolies become 'Greater Scousers?'

What about Formby?
Might be massively biased about that though.

I spent 0-2 in Fairfield, so I've got some scouse claim regardless what Sheik says.
