Henchoz at his best was an excellent defender - no frills, but it took a very good player to get past him.
Made a fine goaly in the 2001 cup final also... good player Henchoz.
I know very little of him, but signing a defender from a relegated club doesn't fill me with much confidence.

There must be better out there.
You're conveniently leaving out the fact that Dann missed a large chunk of the season through injury which didn't help Birmingham's cause to say the least.
That's hardly reassuring.
Wasn't my intention to reassure you mate, if you don't rate Dann that's fine, but using Birmingham's relegation to back up your argument is harsh when Dann missed half the season.

For what it's worth, i don't think it's a coincidence that Birmingham struggled when he was out.

Succinctly put and I also happen to agree.

Henchoz was a solid defender but obviously not in the same class as Carra or Sami. Which is really the kind of quality we should be after.

Yep. It is unfair to use the relegation tag against him when he did miss so much time out. I'm still not overly sold on Dann. To be honest I haven't got a semi for any of transfers target yet.

*Waits for the Mata and Hazard links*

I think the reason Squiggles said it's hardly reassuring is the fact that he spent half the season out so Dann seems to be injury prone too.

ARSENAL and Liverpool are to go head to head in a bid to sign Birmingham defender Scott Dann.

Both Kenny Dalglish and Arsene Wenger were disappointed to miss out on Blackburn's Phil Jones and Dann has now moved significantly up their list of targets.

Scouser Dann is a Liverpool fan and the Merseysiders are slight favourites to win the race.

But with Arsenal unsure whether they will complete a deal for Jones's Blackburn team-mate Christopher Samba, boss Wenger regards Dann as a serious alternative.

Relegated Birmingham need to sell players and the 6ft 5in centre-half is their most valuable asset.

The Carling Cup winners have slapped a £15m price tag on Dann but may end up settling for between £10m and £12m.

The Blues' slump in the league coincided with Dann's long-term injury and many regard him as more likely to force his way into the England squad than defensive partner Roger Johnson.

Kop boss Dalglish has had positive feedback from those who have worked with Dann but Reds director of football Damien Comolli favours foreign targets like PSG's Mamadou Sakho.

Wenger is poised to take advantage of the uncertainty but if he misses out on Dann, he will renew his interest in Phil Jagielka. Arsenal had a £12m bid rejected by Everton last summer.

Manchester United's Wes Brown is watching the situation at Goodison Park closely. Sunderland have already declared an interest in Brown but the ex-England international knows the Toffees fancy him and is stalling on a move to the North-East.

Brown will be a target for David Moyes regardless of what happens with Jagielka, as Everton still hope to sell Joseph Yobo to Fenerbahce.

If Wenger rates Scott Dann I'm even less sure I want him. Wenger's hit rate with defenders is about the same as Rafa4's. 😉

Please let the blueslime buy Wes Brown. Please.

Great stats .. thanks for those Binny. Compares very well for a 20 yr old against a 26 yr old. Seems to fit the criteria.

However the stat that makes me say yes is ...... 6' 5" !!! A dominating CB ? Sign the Mutha !

He's nowhere near 6'5'' he's probably not much more than 6'0'' and he's definitely not dominating. I'm not surprised Wenger likes him, he's very similar to Koscielny, Squillaci etc in that he's decent on the ball but doesn't like to play against agressive players like Tevez, Carroll, Rooney.

Please Kenny, listen to Comolli, we don't want/need Dann.

Just checked a couple of websites, one has him at 6'1" and the other at 6'2".

FFS Froggy you were getting overly-giddy about Scott Dann! He shouldn't even register on the giddymeter.

*Pulls tongue out of cheek.*

I can't even remember seeing him play mate so have no opinion on him whatsoever !

I think we need someone better than a Henchoz though.
Henchoz was a terrific defender for us. I'd take another one of him in an absolute heartbeat.

The fact he played alongside Hyypia did him a disservice, cos he was an excellent defender in his own right. He was just unfairly labelled the weaker of the two because Sami was such a collosus.

Indeed. Him and Sami were the best central defensive pair in the Premiership for two seasons.

Yep, Henchoz always deserved more love thanehe got.

His departure was far too quiet.

Henchoz was a good defender obviously. He was never Sami or Carra class though, which was my point. And when we're looking for a new CB, I'd rather we got someone who could be as good as Sami or Carra (which is easier said than done of course).

What're your opinions on Agger/Skrtel v. Henchoz btw?

Dann is a Scouser so surely won't go to arsenal? He also fits in with our policy of signing players coming back from long term injuries...

Different types of defender really, but if you were giving me the choice I'd choose Henchoz ever day of the week.
