I'm not so concerned with the time issue, I am however concerned with the names of targets we've been linked with
I share your concern and of course the names are more important. But I don't think timing is something to be neglected. Considering that we play Arsenal at the emirates on the 20th of August, I'd like us to have our best team on the pitch.
I actually think we're moving too quickly, which is why we're being so linked with so many average players.
You've got a point and I mentioned it in another thread about pressuring clubs by playing the waiting game but this is just a case of clubs being too greedy for their own good. The likes of Cahill and Enrique only have a year left and the clubs need to come to their senses or they'll risk loosing them for free.

I think the 15mill price tag us just fir Villa as they're bitter rivals and they want to fleece them, I reckon Brum would sell him to us for 10mill
Stoke have offered £12 million, we will only go to £10 million. If I ran a just relegated team I know what the only bid I'd listen to is.

Also, the point at only making 1 signing, the transfer window isn't even fucking open! July 1st it opens.

Just curious, why?
BTW
You are allowed to make deals now, you know. They'll be transfered July 1st.

Cos we work with his mate, & he's told us that the club have told Brum we'll only pay 10m.
and how do you know we haven't?
Because THE SKY IS FALLING, RUN!

Why to what point? I'd only accept a bigger bid? Or why we won't push for the extra £2 million? Maybe £10 million is what we see his value is.

The new owners have been quoting the Liverpool way a number of times. We won't know who we have bought until it's officially our signing.

We're playing hardball with Birmingham because it's pretty obvious which club Dann would prefer to join.

I'm not sure I think Dann is good enough for us, but I'm glad we're showing we're no longer anyone's fools in the market.

You're right and so is FFF who's a bit mad right now.
I don't know, but do I have a clue? Maybe.

We've been told long before the window opened, by "insiders" on this site and others, that we'd be going after Henderson, Jones, Downing, Young, McAdam etc and it has come to fruition.
I haven't heard anything about any foreign players. That's the only thing I'm going by.

If we had made a bid for Mata don't you lot think we'd known by now?

The international window hasnt opened yet,Modo.

Relax.

I do hope though that we have better targets lined up, and mre importantly in areas of greater need. I really hope we dont add another 2 midfielders to the 10-12 odd we already have on the bench.

But aren't we allowed to arrange deals before the window opens, was my point and wouldn't we already have known about it considering that we've known about the others weeks before the British window opened?

I'm sure we could, and I'm sure we have.

It's more important to take our time, negotiate as strongly as we can, and bring in the best players.

As I said in another thread, better Mata in August than Downing in June.

*thumbs up

Don't we risk losing out on a number of players with that approach and then left pretty much fucked for next season?

We do, but I think hasty negotiation leads to massively overpriced and average.

Hope we get the balance right.

Were not fucked. We still have a team that performed well the last 4 months, and a Stevie G, Andy C and refitted Aquaman coming in there.

Stoke have launched a double swoop for Birmingham City duo Scott Dann and Cameron Jerome for a fee that could eventually rise to £16m.

The recently-relegated Blues will sell several of their players to top flight clubs and defender Dann and striker Jerome head the list.

Dann, 24, is valued at £12m and Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in his services.

The news of moves for Dann and Jerome comes as Stoke announced that they have scaled down their European scouting operation in order to concentrate on the British market.

'We haven't scoured Europe like we did last year,' director of football John Rudge told The Sentinel.

'Just recently all the staff have been out to several different European countries, but that's only been over the last couple of months.
'We have scaled it down from what it was a couple of years ago, although no door is ever closed.

'We still have our contacts out there, so we can follow up recommendations whenever we have to.

'Tony would prefer English players if he can get the right quality at the right price but he has never ruled out a foreign player and we shall certainly take a long, hard look at those recommended.'

I'm surprised we're not in for Cameron Jerome.

With a 25M bid or something. Followed by a bunch of posts from happy-clapping fucks telling us how Jerome is a good signing for us.

And about how this is how the market is and we should get used to signing rubbish players for huge money because we're not in the Champions League. (pretending Suarez never arrived)

Seriously, if Birmingham don't accept that offer from Stoke for those 2 players they need their heads examined - their combined worth is about £9m (£6m Dann, £3m Jerome).

If I were Scottish and of a pensionable age and was looking for a name for my pension fund I would think Obertanbebe would seem appropriate.

STEVE BRUCE is preparing another raid on former club Birmingham with a £10m swoop for Scott Dann.

Sunderland boss Bruce will scrap Liverpool and Stoke in a fight to land the highly-rated defender.

Bruce has already forked out nearly £20m after landing Craig Gardner and Seb Larsson from his old club along with Connor Wickham, Kieren Westwood and Ji Dong-won.

And now Sunderland are ready to test Birmingham’s resolve for the 24-year-old Scouser, who was signed by former Blues boss Alex McLeish from Coventry.

Birmingham have already rejected a package deal from Stoke for Dann and Cameron Jerome that would have eventually earned them around £12m.

Tony Pulis has revealed that Stoke are waiting to hear whether their bid for Scott Dann has been accepted.

The Potters have put an offer to Birmingham for their highly-rated centre-half and hope the money on the table will be enough to push through a deal.

The Blues have yet to offer their response, though, with it important to ensure that any agreement will benefit all concerned.

They would prefer not to part with Dann but, following relegation out of the Premier League and with interest in his services mounting, they look set to sanction a sale at some stage.

Stoke hope they will be the ones to strike a deal, with Pulis determined to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season.

"We have made an offer which we think is a reasonable offer to Birmingham and it's now up to Birmingham to come back and let us know whether they will accept it or not," he told Sky Sports News on the Potters' bid for Dann.

"We have interest in other players and we will do our business the right way if we possibly can."

Stoke are also keen on Birmingham forward Cameron Jerome, but Pulis insists there are plenty of names on his summer shopping list that are not currently plying their trade at St Andrews.

"It's not just them, we have made offers for other players and we are interested in other players," he added.

"We do our business at Stoke the way we think it should be done and that's with both clubs involved and we'll tell you after we've done it."

According the media Arsenal and Chelsea are fighting it out for him, what will happen to the whining brigade then..
