Henchoz was a good defender obviously. He was never Sami or Carra class though, which was my point. And when we're looking for a new CB, I'd rather we got someone who could be as good as Sami or Carra (which is easier said than done of course).

What're your opinions on Agger/Skrtel v. Henchoz btw?
Different types of defender really, but if you were giving me the choice I'd choose Henchoz ever day of the week.
Same here. Henchoz was the absolute archetype of a defender whose quality was proven by the fact that nobody ever noticed him. He'd have tackled a tank for LFC, and the outcome would have been anybody's guess too.
Good stand in keeper too 😀

A few misguided comments about Henchoz but thankfully the majority remember him accurately.

He was an absolutely phenomenal defender.

henchoz was a great defender but he had sami beside him (argubly our best ever centre back) and hamann shielding him (argubly our best ever holding midfielder).

Remember the rumours about Sami and Henchoz falling out over one of them sleeping with the other's wife. Henchoz was moved on abruptly wasn't he?

What was that story again?

Not sure. Haven't taken a taxi cab ride for a while.

Depends on their need to sell isn't it? His remaining length of contract, the wage he's on, whether they manage to offload other fringe players or high earners etc. Else, they could see this as since Stoke are able to come up with £12m, the 'bigger' clubs should be able to afford more.

ALEX McLEISH must find £15million to take Scott Dann from former club Birmingham.

That was the fee Blues chiefs quoted before McLeish made his sensational switch across the Second City's great divide to Aston Villa.

Big Eck has identified Dann as the player he most wants to follow him to Villa Park - but competition from Stoke and Arsenal will drive up the price.

With interest from Dann's boyhood favourites Liverpool fading, the 6ft 2in centre-back is considering whether he is willing to risk the same backlash as McLeish by swapping relegated Brum for Villa.

Stoke have already bid £12m for the former Coventry ace, 24, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains a fan.

But if Arsenal and Liverpool are not prepared to put their money where their mouths are, Dann may look elsewhere to continue his career.

£8 million maximum in my view, taking into account he's now playing for a Championship Club.

£15 million price tag is quite frankly ridiculous.

This whole window has been ridiculous, Garr.
Remember that we paid like £4-5 Million for Agger...

I know, we were fucking fleeced

I think the 15mill price tag us just fir Villa as they're bitter rivals and they want to fleece them, I reckon Brum would sell him to us for 10mill

Point well taken.

Fighting it out with Stoke and Aston Villa for the signature of someone from Birmingham.

^Such sentences always give me a raging fat one.

Apparently we've backed down and another club have matched his supposed transfer fee.

Source? Twitter Paul86

Not that arsed to be honest, we should be after Cahill.

Probably in the minority here, but i'm not all that fussed about Gary Cahill. Good defender yes, but an overrated one as far as i'm concerned.

He's not the most commanding of central defenders. I'd actually prefer Dann, not that i think he's top class either.

To be fair, Dann isn't that bad. Seen some footage of him lately and he seems to be a towering no nonsense defender.
However in a direct comparison to Cahill, the Bolton defender wins hands down.
Of course there's the money factor and the fact that one is a Liverpool supporting Scouser.
Dann would be cheaper and he'd probably and won't be on high wages as his counter part but if we want quality we'll have to pay up.
Cahill is definitely not overrated, if anything I'd say he's underrated. Imagine how he'd perform in a better team...

EDIT:
Spurs are looking to flog off Bassong or Kaboul to Bolton in order to get Cahill.
Man City and Arsenal are also heavily linked.
We seem to be looking in another direction I'm afraid.

Fucking depressing. We're nearing the end of June and we still need a LB, a CB, a winger, a striker and possibly another midfielder.

I remember reading on twitter I think from pault86 that if we dont get dann our next choice is sakho followed by lovren. Tbh I'd prefer either one of them to dann.

Holy fuck, that IS depressing! What the fuck are we gonna do, the transfer windows is gonna shut soo...

Oh no, wait, it's only the end of FUCKING JUNE.

Real Madrid got two very talented players during the first week of the transfer window, Sahin and Altintop. We've been haggling with Villa and Blackpool about average players for two weeks.
We lost Young and Jones to Man U early on but it seemed as if we didn't have any back ups.
Why am I being hysterical? Well pre-season starts in about a week and we still haven't got anyone that would be considered a certain starter. We haven't sold anyone either.
Maybe it's a case of me wanting the squad to be settled by July while many of you are happy with potential transfers starting their pre-season in other teams.
Logically the earlier they join the better they get to know their team-mates on and off the pitch.
I want to see our new arrivals play in preseason friendlies in order to gel with the rest of the team.

I'm not so concerned with the time issue, I am however concerned with the names of targets we've been linked with

I share your concern and of course the names are more important. But I don't think timing is something to be neglected. Considering that we play Arsenal at the emirates on the 20th of August, I'd like us to have our best team on the pitch.

I actually think we're moving too quickly, which is why we're being so linked with so many average players.
