This is why I didn't get the signing of Meireles, Meireles is ver much a similar player to Aqua he's no defensive midfielder. So we spent 11 Million on a player where we already have 2 quality players to play in this position. We should of signed a player who's 1st position is a defensive midfielder, unless hodgson is going to move from 2 defensive midfielders which is unlikely.

I think Hodgson had in mind to replace Aquilani with Meireles, and have the option to play Gerrard higher as well.

Meireles is NOT similar to Aqua. He's far stronger defensively, maybe not a specialist DM but much better equipped than Aqua to cover the hard defensive yards. We never played two specialist DMs anyway - apart from anything else, we didn't need to while we had Masher.
