I have a question about all this, hopefully one of you boys can enlighten me.
He says they will open up the floor for bids but then he says the club will not necessarily be sold to the highest bidder and that we will pick the best person. Considering it is the Yanks we are talking about and some bankers, surely there is no fucking chance the club will go to the 'best person' if that person doesn't outbid everyone else? Serious question lads.

Im giving broughton and purslow the benefit of the doubt until the deal is done. I hope he means that once all contenders have passed the balancing of the books, making an offer the banks deem suitable and building the stadium tests (all official statements made by broughton have said that it will be the banks and not the yanks who deem what will be an acceptable offer) then it will be the one who has the best going forward plan who will win! Although if some sugar daddy with a gazzilion pounds comes in I dont know how they could turn it down!

I wonder how much of this Broughton's said with one eye on the fiasco of Moores' sale to H and G in the first place. If Broughton, Purslow and whoever else involved in selling the club think the highest bid is just so much p!$$ in the wind and some or all of the money is not likely to materialise, but the next highest bid is from someone or some organisation who's rock solid, they could quite conceivably go for the latter. Such people/organisations are also more likely to have solid plans in place for the club's future.
[/quote]
Why would they?
There's nothing in it for them long term. Once the club is sold, Broughton is off and the banks will have their money.
What do they care if the 2nd or 3rd hightest bidder is more 'rock solid' than the top bidder?
Also, I can't believe that the Americans can't block the sale. If it was just up to the banks and Broughton, then surely the best offer is to pay off the debt (£380mil?)and a promise to finance the new stadium through Barclays?

I already answered your opening question in my post above. Check out the bit I've highlighted this time around.
Broughton's not going to come straight out and say H and G can't block the sale if it's untrue. If he were caught out in that kind of barefaced lie, his reputation would go up the spout and he could well be barred from practising as a company director in the future too.

Exactly Jules, Some people don't actually get that he has a big reputation and that he is well respected in the business world (just check his resume). The way some fans put it across you'd think he was put on this planet solely to destroy this club! Id like some of the fans that knock him so often to try and step into his shoes......i bet the club would be on its knees in weeks. Its easy to judge when they're been spoon fed second hand gossip by organisations who are just glorified armchair fans wanting to be more than they actually are!
